Display for 4WD?
I just picked up my ram about a week ago. 2004 1500 SLT. If i put it into 4H I do not see any indication that it is engaged. I was under the impresion it should say on the gauge cluster somewhere that 4WD is engaged. Any help is appreciated.
Your impression is correct. It should indicate at the bottom of the cluster when 4WD is engaged. Possibly the lamp for the indicator is burned out, or it is not going into 4WD. Do you have the electronic transfer or standard lever?
i have the lever on the floor. though i'm pretty sure it is going into 4WD because we had some snow yesterday and i had it in 4H and it was doing quite well. also when i had it in 4H on dry pavement it was skidding on tight turns indicating to me the axles were locked and in 4wd.

The display you're referring to, is located directly underneath the speedometer. It's approximately 1/4" high, and will show either 4 HI or 4 Low.

sounds to me like the bulb just burned out. Easiest way to find out is to pull off into some dirt, put it in 4wd, and floor it real quick. You should see 4 indentions in the dirt. If you dont, no 4x4.
