Default Newby With a Question...

Hey guys, Im new to the dodge trucks. Just picked up a 2002 ram 1500 Sport 4X4 with the 4.7.

My question is, I havent hit higher than 12.1 mpg, that is including highway driving. I have been light on the pedal also. The truck has 36,000 miles and runs perfect. I was thinking new spark plugs, and new air filter probaly K & N. Wha kind of gas mileage are u guys getting with your trucks, and my also a single cab...Thanks

If you will look at the top of the forum you will see a discussion about fuel mileage. Our trucks aren't know for their great gas mileage though, but changing the spark plugs might help a little bit. I average 13 mpg, but I'm an aggressive driver. I have a 2003 1500 2wd with the 5.9 engine.

I get about 14.8 in town and 22 on the highway. I ONCE hit 26mpg highway going across FL but I consider this a fluke as I cannot replicate it.

I have put in the Bosch Platinum +4 plugs, AIRRAM CAI, and had the FASTMAN widen my throttlebody to 70mm. For all this work (approx $400.00) I got 3-4 miles per gallon better.

Pretty much keeping your tires properly inflated and not "jumping" off the light all the time is about the best you can do.
