Default hemi oil change

Well, I did the first oil change. I now have a dumb question....

Does anyone have any tips/tricks on how to do this w/o making a mess? I've changed oil on vehicles countless times before, but this one made a mess out of me.

The part that got me was removing the filter. While I was at the end of unscrewing it, that very thin oil comes out of there like nobody's business. hitting anything and everything under it.

I've never messed with this thin of oil before.....

I just picked up an oil filter adapter from the local dealer. This bolts up to the oil filter mounting surface, offsets the filter by 45*, and includes a trough for the oil to flow along. P/N is 53021610AE. You also need the large o'ring (the small o'ring comes with the adapter), and three bolts to mount it to the engine block. Otherwise, you can use a 2 liter soda bottle, cut the bottom off, and with the cap on, hold it upside down beneath the filter as you loosen it. Then once the oil is in the upside down bottle, you can dispense it into a drain pan.

Grab a hold of the filter with a large ziplock, that way when it finally comes loose it will just drop into the bag.

My 05 4.7 has a diversion spout which directs the oil down and to the front of the engine as you remove the filter.

I think the hemi has that too... and it directs the path right down of the arm of the owner. Perfect mess every time. Like the soda bottle idea, and the baggie.
