Shocks for leveling keys
I had Readylift leveling keys installed a few weeks ago. Afterwards, I had the front end alligned and I have ony one problem. When I go over a speed bump or pothole, I feel and hear a loud "thunk". It must be reaching the limits of the stock shocks. I wrote Readylift tech help and they told me not to get longer shocks due to the greater travel being bad on my ball joints. I have decided to get Bilstein shocks all around. Should I go with the stock ones (for an 05 1500 SLT Hemi) or the longer shocks from the earlier Rams that I have read others have went with that have more travel? It seems that I have to make a choice of either topping out on my shocks or ruining the balljoints.
I did a lift in my '05 1500 4x, bought a set of SJA-H7017 and a set of RAN-RS5000 from SUMMIT. Couldn't tell you which were fronts and which were the rears. Give them a call with my numbers and see what you'll need!
I got Bilsteins for mine after the keys were installed. I got them at AutoZone and I don't remember what the number is on them, but I do know that they are plenty long and I believe it was the stock numbers. I'll check them tomorrow if I remember.
I almost did the lift when I realized the bilstein shocks I bought were wayyy to long. they were almost completely compressed when i had the a-arm dropped, must have been a 2" lifted shock for the older ram.
Well, that was a mistake. I installed the replacement Bilstein shocks for my truck and every time I hit a pothole or speed bump I still feel like the front end will fall off when the shocks top out. Some people here have had good luck by installing the stock replacement shocks, but I should have went with longer ones from earlier years like others have recommended. I don't even go off road driving, but I wish I had more suspension travel. A lesson learned.
