The Magnaflow is coming off - now what?
I have decided that I can no longer stand the resonance my new Magnaflow exhaust is generating. 70mph makes my head hurt it is so loud.
I went to a custom exhaust shop and they recommended either the Dynomax Super Turbo or the Flo-Pro muffler as a replacement. They said either muffler will be MUCH quieter than the Magnaflow with no resonance or drone.
What does everyone think? Any experiences with these mufflers? Which would be better?
I am looking for a nice quiet, mellow sound until I get on it. I don't want a lot of noise during normal accerlation and I don't really want to hear it at all at cruise.
Thanks for any advice you can give!!!

I just dumped my magnaflow too. With headers it was really loud. I switched to this and it is perfect.

But if you don't have headers you might want to try something a little louder.

Wierd!? I have a Magnaflow cat back and love it.
No resonating at all!
What year do you have? May since mine is a 06 with MDS I don't notice it because it revs so low at highway speeds?
I have the biggest muffler though, 22" I believe. Wish I went with the 18" now. Oh well, first exhaust, didn't want it to loud. But it's nice and mellow and sounds sweet when I take off.
The low end gain is great! Just hard to hook up in the snow now in 2wd!

If you are trying to get rid of 'drone' at highway cruising speed
you need a 'Helmhertz Resonator' chamber in whatever muffler
you choose.
A Helmhertz chamber looks like number 2 in this Edelbrock
muffler picture:

It is also possible to get rid of 'drone' by using two 'straight thru' design low restriction mufflers like the DynoMax UltraFlo SS. You do this by using the largest length muffler available in that style right after the catalytic converter, then a length of exhaust pipe that is either longer than 70 inches or shorter than 55 inches, then end the exhaust with the smallest length muffler available as a type of exhaust tip.
The length of the exhaust pipe from the end of the muffler to the tip is important. The section of exhaust pipe acts like a musical instrument similar to a Flute or a Pipe Organ. To avoid drone it needs to be either longer than 70 inches or shorter than 55 inches for V8 engines
( 4 or 6 cyl is different)
What length is your present exhaust pipe behind the Magnaflow?

what I would do would be to place a resonator after each header and then keep the magnaflow. I have a friend that did it with his Flowmaster Super 40s and it doesnt make any noise in the cab when cruising or even at idle.
...my first muffler was a magnadrone...finally couldn't stand the 2k rpm resonance and switched to a flowmaster delta 50...3" si/2.5" do...I love the sound an so does everyone else...it's mean...
My friend has Flowmasters, they were shot within 3 years. He just swtiched to a MF and loves it!
I don't get a drone at 2k!? Must be the MDS. Mine sounds sweet. If anything, I'd like it louder!
Maybe you have to small of muffler for your truck?
I believe I have the 22x5x11.
