This is a very interesting debate and discussion; we would hope (and try to give DC the benefit of 'no doubt') that Mopar Engineering has progressed far past the horrific mistake that GM tried on the automotive public back in the eighties. With that said it is also the specific reason that I purchased a late production 05'. This forum should find the solution for those that need it without spending a fortune or shredding their nerves. As mentioned, it's very difficult to achieve maximum MPG and Power concurrently without some 'grinding-of-the-gears' going on***

Just my spin & .02 for what it's worth,

If you want a non MDS Hemi you have to get a Heavy Duty 2500/3500 truck. I love my 2500HD. MDS does not work in a full size truck. It is for small to midsized passanger cars. MDS was a horrible idea to put on a full size Ram.

I like my mds but if you simply want to turn it off then do as follows.....

1. quit bitching
2. turn ignition on
3. turn over drive OFF and use either tow haul or o/d off
4. drive truck with mds disabled

It's that easy. Not rocket science.

Has anyone with an '07 really noticed that much of a difference in gas mileage from any other truck on the road? I understand the theory behind the MDS, and obviously it's something other companies are going to be implementing, but how much does it really save you? Are we talking maybe a few more miles per gallon? In the grand scheme of things, are we talking a few dollars per tank?

I have an '07 1500 w/Hemi and I'm a little annoyed about the shifting up and down all the time, but I really like the truck. I only have 3500 km's on the thing, but the best I've done so far for mileage has been 575 km's to a tank. 98% of those km's were on the highway.

I'm hoping this gets better, because a buddy of mine is getting 900 km's to a tank with his F150. I know it's a smaller motor, but holy crap, that's a pretty big difference.

Brother, with the gas prices on there way up again, you might want to keep that MDS the way it is.
I know i wish i had it.

Real new to here...hello all. With just about 400mi on my o7, hemi QC 4x4, my overhead display has me a little uneasy...7mpg city....10 highway (highway I set cruise control @60 anddrove approx 45 minutes) Is this going to get better as I get more miles on the truck? I love the truck but was hoping for at least low to mid teens. Any comments/help appreciated.

It will get better. I bought my 06 in Nov and I have 3030 miles today. My MPG was simular to yours untill I went past 2000 miles or so. I get 20mpg on the highway at 70mph with cruse on and city is 11-14 depending on how I drive.

Your mileage will improve. I get over 20 easy now going on the highway with cruise on, and 14-15 in town. I used to get like 14 on the highway and 8 in town
