How can I make my hemi believe it is an v8 all the time,and quit the 4cyl. crap? It is always going back and forth and shifting up and down. I live in the Ozarks so we hav a lot of hilly terrain. Help!!

The shifting up and down is probably more related to jumping in and out of overdrive. Using tow/haul will eliminate the second overdrive (5th gear) as well as eliminating mds. OD off will eliminate the first overdrive (4th gear) and also stop mds from engaging. Try using tow/haul or OD off and see if that helps you.

 

do all the 07's with the hemi have msd with them?.....if so then thats gay.....

 

you can get a new cam from comp cams that will eliminate the MDS and errrr help you get up those hills,,,real FAST!

I run in tow haul most of the time. It does make it run on 8 all the time. But the up shift in tow haul to high od doesnt happen till 55mph. The shift in drive is due to it going from four to eight. the tranny downshifts fo a moment o go in to 8 mode the shifts back up. in 9 miles it did the 23 times. i have a turbo muffeler so i hear every time it changes from 8 to 4 or back. thanks for the feed back

 

I wasn't sure about this one, since the change is contolled elctronicly by the drive line module. What do you think?

 

It is gay. I have an 07also. I live at 6000ft+ and can't see it saving meany money in gas mileage. Does anyone know if they can program it to stay off? My 04 got just as good mileage as this one and Itraded wheels and tires from the old truck on to the new one. Now I have a shorter range because of the smaller gas tank. WTF! I thoughtDodges were supposed to be aworkmans truck. Or is thatChevy?Sometimes engineers leave me wondering what it is they get payed to do. I hate to slam, but really! I like my Dodge, but after driving my dads 07 Chevy, I'm left wondering if I bought the right truck. The front end vibrations I'm hearing about leave me to wonder also. How long has Dodge been building 4x4's?

 

GM has a verson of this on the 07 light duty trucks. I avoied MDS andautomatic transmissonsby buying a 2500 Ram with the Hemi and 6sp.

For a engine to be told to run on 4 cylinders than 8 and back to 4 and to have the overdrive on than off than back on again on the whim off coumputer programing is creating more wear and tear.

there is a post from a 5.7 MDS owner
who hooked up a 'Scangauge' to his pcm computer diagnostic port
and found out what sensors had to read
to get the MDS to either stay on
or stay off.
I think he mentioned that oil temperature had to be above
a certain temperature (maybe 140 F ?)
before MDS would kick in
and he speculated that if you spliced in a resistor into the oil temperature sensor (kinda like what has been done in the past with the IAT sensor)
then you could 'lock out' the MDS from ever engaging.

Not that I recommend this for good MPG !

It is constantly amazing to me
that some truck owners think
a pickup should stay in one gear at one engine speed
all the time
regardless of up hill or downhill, load in bed, wind, etc.

No 18 wheel truck driver thinks like that.
When your transmission shifts
it is doing it for a reason.

To either get 'best MPG' or 'best acceleration' or 'longest life'
you need to change gears !
