2005 Hemi Take Off / Loose Something...
I will be hopefully calling up the dealership to take it in. But what I first thought was maybe a case of bad gas, seems to NOT be the case.
I noticed it Sunday morning right after I filled my tank up. At a stop, I take off, It kind of jumps, dies back down, then takes off. So its basically a weird hesitation. Kind of like a one quick sputter.
Well, while driving down a 70mph road, I noticed when I just let off the gas it would jerk and you can feel like something is loose (Perhaps this is a trans problem?). I have only 30,000 miles on the truck. Almost all highway miles. I am about 38 miles from work.
Later that night, the truck has been sitting for hours. I put it in reverse, try backing up, it hesitates a lot. Almost stalls out. I finally get it back and then I get really worried. So driving home that night, same thing with letting off the gas. Almost always seems to do it in Overdrive. It almost always 'hesitates' when I take off. Any ideas?
One thing I can say about the hesitation is, it kind of like the Torque Converter. you get the ones for performace vehicals so it really doesn't engage till a 'certain' RPM. Help you launch with an automatic. Well, it delays a bit till the truck kind of builds up. But does drop back down in RPMs once it hits it, then takes off kind of normal. If I give it more gas when I take off, it will jerk when it does finally 'engage'. Any ideas? Anything I can give the dealership? The truck idles fine. Starts fine, and when I gas it while in Park/Neu it sounds fine. Just when i'm in gear and driving. So I think it has something to do with the drive train back from the flywheel.

Exactly same thing my 05 is doing. Had computer codes checked and it came up with a 0404 code, EGR valve problems. Called dealer to have it replaced and there seems to be a major issue there. Nation wide Dodge dealers have about 1000 of on back order. There is only one manufacture that makes them for Dodge, you can't find anyone one that carries them; ie, o'rielly, autozone, napa. etc. Contract issue with Dodge and the manufacture I guess. Mine has been on back order for two weeks now.
MINE WAS DOING THE SAME THING. THEN IT STARTED NOT TODOWNSHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR IT WAS STAYING IN SECOND GEAR. IT WOULD REV TO ABOUT 2200 RPM WHEN LEAVING A STOP LIGHT. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER I WORK AT PUT IT ON THE SCANNER AND FOUND A P1757 CODE WHICH IS A TRANSMISSION GOVERNOR PRESSURE TRANSDUCER SENSOR MALFUNCTION. BASICALLY THE TRANS. LINE PRESSURE GOING INTO THE GOVERNOR VALVE IN THE TRANS. VALVE BODY WAS ABOVE 3PSI AT O MPH THEREFORE IT WOULD NOT LET IT DOWN SHIFT BECAUSE OF TOO MUCH PRESSURE. WHEN I REMOVED MY TRANNY AND TORE IT DOWN I FOUND ALL OF THE INTERNAL CLUTCHES HAD BEEN DESTROYED ALONG WITH ALL OF THE SEALS AND THE TORQUE CONVERTOR,SO I REBUILT THE TRANNY. IT WAS CHEAPER FOR ME TO REBUILD IT THAN TO BUY A NEW ONE, BUT I ALSO HAVE THE TRANNY TOOLS AT MY DISPOSAL SINCE I WORK AT THE DEALER. PLUS I HAVE NO MORE WARRANTY DUE TO A LIFT KIT AND A SUPERCHARGER!! IF YOU ASK ME THE LIFT AND THE SUPERCHARGER AR FUN BUT WEREN'T WORTH IT. I HAVE FIXED THIS TRANNY PROBLEM 4 TIMES NOW IT IS BECAUSE THE TORQUE CONVERTOR KEEPS FAILING.
My first thought would be your EGR, i've had that get stuck open with carbon deposits on another vehicle, and it bogged down and ran really rough.
atlantic, I would recommend buying an aps torque converter so you don't have the failures anymore; those things are supposed to be pretty bullet proof

Has this only started happening with the new tank of gas???? If that is the case try adding some dry gas to remove any water that might have been in the gas. I have seen that occur on more than one occasion depending on the fuel that you buy. See if the truck acts the same when you re-fill the tank the next time also.
I would say go with the easy thing first! Have you replaced the fuel filtter? If not have it swapped. When they take it out blow in to see if it is clogged. The other thing is it could be your transmission of course.
First have tranny filter changed and change tranny fluid, then see what happens. Hopefully your tranny isn't already damaged badly (as in the torque converter and other internals).
