After owning my 07 QC 5.7 for 3 weeks, I took it in to see about this whining noise at 45 mph. I was told by the dealer that this is normal and is not a defect. They said it is the crown gear noise or some crap like that. So sitting here having nothing to do, I decided to "Ask Dr Z." about how could they put out a product that makes a noise like that. This is the response.

To review your concerns, I spoke with Lindsey, at Tallahassee Dodge Chrysler Jeep. Lindsey verified that the condition in question is a function of your vehicle's design and is not a defect in materials, workmanship, manufacturing, or factory preparation. These are the only types of defects covered under the new vehicle limited warranty.

Because DaimlerChrysler relies on its authorized dealerships to
determine when a warrantable defect exists, we must support the
assessment of your dealer. However, seeking a second opinion from another authorized dealership may be a viable option.

Sounds like the typical dodge customer service brush off Im familiar with that aswell

 

The funny thing is all I did was ask how this could be normal. I never once said that this is a problem and it needs to be fixed. Dr. Z showed no love (Not that I thought this would make any difference). I just wanted to see what they would say about it. Anyone elses truck whine like hell at 45mph 1500 rpm????

I have had Durangos whine on me before, it is either the belt or the engine trying to suck in more air... Take the air box lid off and see if it still does it.
