Default Considering an '05 Ram Daytona - yay or nay?

Hey guys, first post to the board and thought after doing some research that this would be the best way to ask. I'm currently looking to get out my '02 Jeep Wrangler (pretty well built too) and into something else right now. That something else was going to be a charger R/T or something like a Ram QC Daytona. Price wise consideration, I'm pretty sure I can get into an '05 Daytona Ram w/ 12k miles for roughly 19-20k. I can't get into a charger R/T for the same price so the Ram is looking more attractive.

I've never owned a truck before, just jeeps (CJ's and TJ's), saabs, and a bimmer. I like the look of the Daytona on the dodge...not sure if i'm sold on the wing, but i can always take it off and put it on later. I like the HP output on the daytona too, and i'm probably going for a test drive today or tomorrow.

What I'd like to know is what are some pro's /cons of this model for this year? Anything to look out for? How's the mod-ability on the Daytona? Am I limited to the exhause it comes with, or can i look elsewhere?

Thanks guys, looking for any and all imput on this.

Oh, and another plus for the truck is that i'll probably be moving into a new house at the end of the year and can use the space in a truck, but that's not a definite selling point. I like sporty, torque and driveability. Utility is a plus as I mentioned.

Ok, and another question: what exactly is the SLT package? I can't find a breakdown of what is included in that package. Also, since my jeeps have always been 4x4, and now that i live in texas, will i be taking a hit in performance if i mainly use the truck (which is 4x2)on street and there's no snow/dirt to get mucked up in?

David

well, for 4x4, you only use it when you get stuck. your always in 4x2. so the only scenario i can think of when using 4x4 is either when you are hauling a boat out of a boat launch and the slope is too steep and there is too much moss on the ramp or when you get stuck in mud. it is all the same i think. so lets see what other have to say. anyone wanna elaborate on this please?

Being the former owner of two TJ's let me first say you will miss it badly! With that being said I love my Ram and think the Daytona is one bad *** looking rig! You will find having a truck very useful, especially once you start moving. Thereafter you will find that the truck seems to be a magnet to Home Depot and Lowe's,lol!!!!!! Oh...there's plenty out there to mod the Ram with!

the slt is just a trim level....the st is barebones....the slt has power windows, doors, cruise, ac.....most of that stuff and on a normal ram has chrome accents (grille and bumpers) instead of black plastic...but on the daytona everything is eithersilver or orange besides the grille inserts and wheels of corse......

My buddy has one that's Silver and Black. He loves it.
Mods for other 4x2 rams should all fit the Daytona.

SLT = gadgets, like overhead console, power EVERYTHING, steering wheel radio controls, yadda yadda. I personally don't like the wing on a truck (was great on the original Daytona and Superbird), maybe its just the anti-ricer in me. Otherwise I think they're sharp looking, if I'm not mistaken the Daytona Rams come with an aftermarket exhaust.

All 4x4 does it let you get even more stuck. Unless you have lockers and tires and them skills then all 4x4 does in mud and sticky sitiations is dig you deeper. If you lived up north than snow would be an issue, but since you are living in the great state of texas, the 4x2 wont hurt you any. Now that I said all that, I live in south texas and drive a 4x4. I have got stuck once because of them slick tires, but i got out. It is nice to have but really on gets you stuck worse. For instance today I was out cruzin in our polaris ranger which has AWD and I sunk it to the frame becase when the back tires started spinning and the front kicked in all i did was sink. It was fun and pictures will be up in a bit but i will probably start a new post so I dont go jacking your thread.

Edit: Yay
