what is your time and mods

my truck is an 88 ram 440ci ran 16.3 @82with 3.21 gears weighs 4600lbs with me in it

my girlfriend dads truck is an 05 hemi short bed standard cab, flowmaster and hyperpack tune, ran 15.3
with 3.90 gears weight ?

mayby i need 3.90 gears

Well, gears would definitly make a difference at 3.21's. Also, you gotta compare the gears and tranny setup. You are more than likely running 727 3 speed tranny, he is going to have, more than likely, a much better gear ratio early on and plus put a little more power to the ground with the newer drivetrain. Keep in mind that unless you have really went to town on the 440 heads/internals and/or have swapped it for something from '72 or earlier you have a very detuned 440. What year is the 40 from? If you want to wake it up go get a set of 3.90 gear for it, go find a good used set of 906 or 452 cast heads (452's wold be better in your case) and have a 3 angle valve job doe on them. That will really wake that 440 up.
