Generally, from the forum here, WIX, Purolator-"Pure One" Mobil 1, are about the best. I like Mobil 1 and have used it on my truck since day one. The fact that they use polyester instead of paper is a real plus. Mobil 1 has a Quart size filter #M1-301 for the same price as the 201 (pint) size

Years ago, I used to be a die hard Fram fanatic. When I started reading independant studiesof filters on the internet, and saw with my own eyes, cut open filters, I changed my loyalty. Now, I will use nothing but Wix (Napa Gold/Carquest ?) filters. There IS a difference in filters!

+1. I always use Mobile 1 filters. I almost grabbed a Fram last oil change, I'm glad I asked the lady behind the counter to see if she had some Mobile's in the back and they did. I also like that Mobile 1 uses polyester...it matches my pants.

Now, are we speaking about the regular FRAM, or all of the Fram's, including the Tough Guard and others?
Let's talk about price for a second. It's my understanding that Mobil 1 goes for about $10.99, and K&N goes for about $12.99.
what's the Napa Gold going for? And how does it compare with the above two?

Used to use Fram Tough Guard, switched to Mobil 1 about 5 oil changes ago. I also use Mobil 1 Truck & SUV Synthetic formula 5w30 oil.

I think in the reserch it shows that they all use paper end caps for the cartridge. That makes the anti drain back valve almost useless. He showed that they were a little better than the 'extra guard' but still not as good as Wix or even champion.

Who makes Wix? and are there different versions of the Wix filters? i.e., Gold, Silver and so forth?
