A friend of mine has a Dakota with the 4.7 he had to have the heads replaced under warranty. Not bashing just stating.

DCx has recently announced an extensive redesign of the 4.7 V8
with
dual sparkplugs,
a new combustion chamber shape in the head
and a higher compression ratio.

Too bad they did not also include
variable valve timing
and direct injection.

Let's hope the 'brown gunk' at the oil filler neck is gone for good too.

. . . . . He also said that his buddy has a stock 2500 hemi that can go from 40 mph to 80 mph with a fifth wheel trailer in approx 45 feet. Also told me the cummins diesels are junk and that if you don't change oil at 3k miles it turns to the consistency of water. So i'm thinkin he's just not too educated.
I'd like to see him do that just so I could see the 545RFE get puked from that truck.

also, Ive got about 9,000 on my current oil change. . .still good, it might be black as night from the soot, but it is still good. I take it this guy is a die-hard ford fan and believes a modded 6.0-crap will last longer than a stock cummins or d-max.

I'm about to turn over 139,000 in my 4.7 and I have yet to have a problem. The valve train is in great condition and I have yet to experience any problems. Sounds like this guy must drive a ford.

The only complaint I hear a lot from 4.7 owners is that they burn about the same amount of gas as us Hemi owners! hehe Seriously though this guy sounds like he's full of ****. 40-80 in 45 feet?? Come on! A QC Ram 19 feet long for Pete's sake.

Cheers
Sean

40 to 80 in 45 feet is a feat in itself not mention with a fifth wheel behind it, yes he is full of **it. Tell your dad to enjoy it and most fathers dont beat there vehicles. By the way, what are the reasons the cummins sucks? What a pig nut.
ok well his reason number one was that if the oil isn't changed at exaclty 3k miles the oil turns to the consistency of water. 2. he said they are noisy (i dnno i thought that was a plus to the diesel) 3. He said fuel economy was worse in the diesel while towing the same fifth wheel that his hemi does. (I dnno how he came up with that.) and yes he ownd a cummins b4 his hemi and it was a 97 5.9 (one of the first years for the 24V right). Most ppl swear by diesel after they buy one. His reasons just didn't make any sense.

Ring, I do agree about the mileage it is getting i think he said about 16 mpg hand calculated. the reason he wanted the 4.7L is because he will only buy reg cab short bed and stick shift. Which from dodge this is the only possiblilty. I have driven it a lot so far adn I'm so impressed with it. It's like a friggin tank man

"40 mph to 80 mph with a fifth wheel trailer in approx 45 feet"

Any math wizzards in here that can figure out the kind of force required to propell a 6000lb truck with a (lets assume) empty 5th wheel attached? Lets say overall weight is 7500 lbs. Anyway, the force required to accelerate 7500 lbs 40 mph within 45' must be astronomical. He must have 1 zillion ft lbs of torque. I surprised the earth does not speed up or slow down depending on his traveling direction when he is pulling a trailer! To get your bearings, when DOT stripes a road, the yellow stripe is 10' and the space between the stripes are 40'.
That's more math than my little brain can handle.....

my auto teacher has 230k on his 4.7 and has not had any problems with it other than when he put the "crappy bosch platinum plugs" (his words) in it, and it caused misfires. he put a new set in (dont know what kind) and has not had any problems.
