I'm looking for a step so that when I open my tailgate and want to step up on the bed I can have a step WHILE THE GATE IS DOWN.

Any info or links would be helpful...

I have seen reciever hitch steps at Pep-Boys.. But I don't know exactly what you have inmind.

My father in law custom fabs steps that mount to the frame and is off to the side so you can step up onto an open tail gate. I will see if I can get a picture.

They do have some that attaches to the hitch. But, i don't think you will be able to use it when the tailgate is down.
I could be wrong though.

Now this is something I would be interested in.... PLEASE DO GET A PHOTO.... It doesn't have to be finished, I can refinish, paint, plate etc. etc.

The hitch one won't work since the tailgate is down. The one that is attached to the gate looks kinda g@y to me...

The thought about carrying a step-stool sounds even g@y-er if you ask me...

The new Fords (2008) have a step and a handle built into the tailgate. I kinda like it. (Shame Ford came up with it, darn it.)

My 03 Avalanche used to have steps built into the bumper that could be accessed while the gate was down. Maybe this would be an option assuming you can find an aftermarket bumper maker that designs these.
