I am wondering if i should be concerned if at startup, of my 06 ram fullsize truck, there is blue smokethat appears. the truck has about 5500 miles on it. It also is a hemi.

I would stop by your dealer and lodge a compliant about it NOW.
More than likely it just needs a little more breaking in at 5500 miles, but, if it does continue to smoke after 10k miles, YOU got a problem that needs to be addressed.

I'm guessing valve guide seals, as Dodge runs then loose. That is where the HEMI tick comes from. Yours may be too loose--but it also a little soon to tell--IMO

It only smokes a little a startup and only after the truck has sat for awhile (8-10 hours). It never smokes anytime the engine has already warmed up. The only change I have made lately is that I filled my gas tank with premium gas instead of the usual mid-grade brand.

With 5500 miles, it's break-in is done. I've heard of Diesel engines giving better mileage after extended miles, butdoubt a gas engine is going to see better oil control after this many miles.
This smoke issue is what I would expect from a vehicle that was owned by someone who believes modern engines don't need a break-in period, or unfortunately was abused by test drivers before the vehicle was sold.

I fail to see why running a higher octane would cause problems. The only thing the higher octane is good for is a lower risk of pinging and early detonation. (unless you have your pcm tuned like myself, then you get some good performance increases).
