Fuel Filter
the fuel filtersare located at the bottom(1) and top (1) of the fuel pump module and according to service manual, are not to be replaced unless indicated by diagnostic procedure...they are a lifetime fuel filter
how does any filter last a lifetime with out being maintaned?? so if you run ****ty gas and it gets lots of build up where does it go? into your 5 grand motor or stay there and clog the filter...for life?? in all me cars that i have owned every one of them required filter changes at some point. no matter the quality of fuel either! i wish i could spend ten bucks and change the filter to be honest.. the peace of mind that dodge designed a lifetime part is not a good one!!!
You could always add one in line to prevent anything from reaching the engine, but the factory ones are integral with the pump, and if they clog, I do believe it requires the fuel pump, regulator(integral) be changed out to change the filters. I felt the same way with mine, but it is what it is.
One other thing to consider on your 5.7. The regulator is located at the tank, and there is no return line from the injector rail to the tank.
The rails are made out of metal, and have been known to rust, getting flakes into the top screen of the injectors--plugging them.
Run a can of Sea Foam through your tank at each oil change to grab the water and burn it, keeping the tank dry, and the dead leg areas of the injector rails rust free-----plus it keeps the injectors clean and the engine running good.
Just a Heads UP
