Default Vht nite shades correct way to apply

So i bought the vht nite shades from advanced auto and ive searched online on the proper way to apply it, but ive seen many different ways to "properly" apply it.which is best?

Ive heard i need to clean the tail lights, then wet sand with 2000 grit paper, then use paint thinner to clean again, then tape off all areas i dont want to paint, then apply 3 coats or more all within 10 minutes of each other, then wait for that to dry for 24 hours then apply 5-7 coats of uv protected clear coat.is this right? Do i sand inbetween clear coats?

And lastly ive heard that if you use clear coat it will lighten the nite shades so you wanna make the tails darker than normal if using clear.

I watched my bro do this to his evo x, and he wet sanded prior to applying the nite shade and I want to say he did it one more time before he applied the clear. I dont think the clear made his lights lighter. And he did use paint thinnner after he wetsanded the first time. I am sure the guys that have done this will chime in.

I clean whatever lense you want to do with rubbing alchole and then dry and apply many light light coats so you do not get orange peel!

ahh nightshades. i wet sanded before and spayed medium coats. then cleared about an hour later. then after a few hours of letting the clear dry, wet sand again with 2000 grit. it will look kind of dull. use some polish to make it shine like new. enjoy. when i used light coats it came out dull and dusty looking even after clear coating them

All I do is take a red scotch brite pad and scuff up the light real good then take some Dupli-color Prep Spray and clean the light good. When applying the VHT I go with light to medium coats allowing 10 to 15 mins to dry in between coats. Apply until the light is as dark as you want. The clear coat is definitely a option if you want it shiny. You will hear people that say you must clear it or it will fade. I've done prolly 10 sets of lights, some I've cleared because the person wanted it shinier, I've yet to have a set of tails that I have done fade. The tails on my truck are not cleared and have been done for about 2 years now and have not faded. I talked with a tec at VHT and he said the product is made to stand alone. So IMO the clear is up to you. If applied in this manner I don't think you will have any trouble.
