Default went to start the truck tonight and gremlins and aliens came out from the dash lights

well not really, but the light show was really something to make you think a space ship was landing

here is whats up : 05 Dodge Ram 1500

today the truck ran fine, after I got home tonight, I went to go move it so my wife could have the good parking spot , inserted the key, turned it and wow...light show

dome lights blink, security light blinks ( I don't have a security system BTW ), the odometer blinks but truck has 66,200 on the clock and the light flashes 66 then 200, then 66, then 200 and door ajar light blinks, and maybe a few other things ??

open hood disco battery for like 5 min.
reconnect

I pushed and held the unlock on the remote for about 5 seconds and got the flash of the tail lights that normaly tells me the doors are unlocked, tried the key in the ignition, no click, nothing and the flashing started all over again.

open hood disco battery for like 5 min.
reconnect

took many tries but was able to hold the unlock button again and get it back to normal

jumped it off figuring it might be the battery, and it started fine

disconnected the jumper cables and it died

jumped it again, removed cables died again

open hood disco battery, and thats how it sits in my driveway

now I thought your truck would still run with a bad battery and if it does not, its an alternator problem ???.

where do I go from here and TIA

i would say take off your alternator take it to an auto parts store and have it checked..
if the alt is bad its not charging..if you hook up a battery charger and it stays running bad alt or check your alt fuse.. good luck

Same thing happened to me in my old truck. It was just the battery.

I had a similar issue with our '05 Town & Country... it ended up being the BCM (Body Control Module). The van ran fine (of course we were 2 hours from home), and then we turned off the interstate to grab some food. Suddenly the dash lit up (basically every light at some point) the speedometer and all gauges started moving around sporadically, the radio started playing static, and I was able to drive it to a parking lot.

It would no longer start. Battery was fine. Had to get it towed to a local Dodge dealership, where of course it started, but then died. They diagnosed it as the BCM. It also contains the WCM (wireless control module) which allowed the keyfob to talk to the car to allow it to start. I haven't had any issues since the replacement.

I have no idea if the Ram's have the same modules or not, but it sounds somewhat similar. Hopefully it's not, for your sake. It was about $400 I think.

I think its the batterry, even with a bad alternator you still should be able to start the truck up, but as u drive u will loose power, leading to a bad alternator. happen to me in my ol jeep, started right up, about 10 miles down the road, all my lights dimmed and my gauges where going crazy lol

Edit: but then again if it was ur battery i dont understand why u got fireworks on ur dash, if it was ur battery i would think everything would be very dim and not flashing and screamin at ya

its pretty easy to check the alternator if you have a multimeter--- with your truck at idle, hook your meter up to the battery, and they get somene to rev the engine slowly-- meter should to up to 14 ish volts..
