Default Cherry Bomb Install DIY

This is my 2007 Dodge Ram QCSB 1500.

I ordered a Cherry Bomb Glass Pack from AutoZone.

It didn't take 7 days to recieve it.

But it took me two weeks to get time to install it.

Each post below is a step I took to install this GP (glass pack).

Total time 2 hours. Shipping handling and other parts = $86.

This is a CBD (Cat Back Dump) Install.

I had some challenges.

Parts:
I took the GP with me to AutoZone to get a turn down. The GP was a 3"ID, yet the 3"ID turn down (which was flanged) would not fit over the GP. There was a 18" piece of 3"ID with a flange on the shelf. The flanged end would not fit the glass pack, however the other end fit inside the GP, it also fit inside the turn down. So now I'm buying the Turn Down and 2 - 18" pipes (who knows what will fit on the stock pipe).

This now required 4 clamps and 1 hanger. Total $40 (I end up not using one of the 18" pipes new total = $33)

Now to the steps of the install.

Step 1.

The Tailpipe cutter is from AutoZone (free rental).

I held my GP up to line up the last hanger before the axel with a future placement of a muffler clamp. Then I marked my pipe for cutting.

Just work it back and forth with a mild grip (gorilla grip not needed). It cut through in about 20-30 back and forths.

Step 2.

Remove the old exhaust. This requires Silicone spray to lube the rubber hanger mounts. You will need to drop the spare tire to push the exhaust forward over the axle.

To this point I've done everything by myself.

Step 3.

My neighbor came over to help hold things while all the cutting and hammerin' happened.

I found that the 3"ID pipe flange fit over the stock pipe.

This is where I discovered I wouldn't need the second 18" pipe.

I measured 3" past the flange (on the 18" pipe) and made a mark. I put 2 - 4x4 pieces of wood on each side of my knee and put the pipe down with the cutter in between the wood. This took longer to cut as we were holding the pipe in hand while cutting.

Once cut, I placed the GP on its end on a 4x4. I used the other 4x4 and hammer to beat the pipe into the GP. Then I clamped it down.

I measured 6" on the left over piece and made another cut. This piece I beat 3" into the GP, then placed the turn down on the other side. I did not clamp here, as I will clamp after hanging.

When I was under the truck to hang I realized I needed to bend the Race Hanger 90 degrees. 2 vise gripped pliers worked perfectly.

Here is the finished product with descriptions.

That's water on the drive shaft...I did this in a light rain.

A closer shot of the hanger...

I had to use a 4x4 to beat the whole thing on to the stock pipe.

Boy that was a quick reply...

It was silent before, and now it sounds like this:

Sinus19 has the same GP length and brand.

My radio volume went up 3 points. The MDS kicks in and it goes from truck to tractor.

All I have is a digital camera that will record video, I'll try, but I can't promise good sound. I tried it with my cell and you couldn't hear it over the wind noise.

I just installed it yesterday...did I mention in the rain???
