Well I live in Canada so the Cold Start part won't be happening for a couple months yet lol. But at my next oil change i was going to go to 5w20 Amsoil. We used Amsoil at work and did oil samples on a Cummins N14 that had 3000hrs on the oil and the oil was still within specs of viscosity so thats why i chose Amsoil.

Not sure why but the dealer keeps putting 8 quarts of oil in my truck and it's taking it over the full mark. I believe the manual says 7.5 with filter. They charge me for 8 and that doesn't bother me but put the right amount in. Now it's a pain in *** to drain the oil to the correct amount. Just wanted to bitch a little.

I believe it takes 6.7 litres, I put in 7 because the bottle actually holds 986 ml

I got the manual out today and it does say 7 not 7.5. I don't know why I thought it was 7.5 but anyway now I'm really pissed. The dealer shouldn't be over filling my truck when even the manual says 7. Now I'll have to crawl under my truck and try to just let a little out without it getting away from me. This won't happen again. If they just need 1/4 or half a qt. use it and charge me for whole quart but don't just dump the whole thing in.

Mine is slightly overfilled by that 1/4 quart. But I did that from reading this thread and thinking I was getting it on the lline.1/4 quart is no biggie and I have just left it, Think I'll check iyt tonight. Its Amsoil XL 5w20 and its been in about 5k.Another 1000 or so miles before I change it.

Just a thought... Maybe the oil pan is 7 quarts (capacity) but when you add the filter it may take 7.5 quarts to fill. In that case they are going to charge you for the 8 quarts so you might as well let them put it all in.

alright so i was gonna go and change my oil over to synthetic but now that i've been reading and doing some research im a lil hestitant on switching over... my truck is an 02 dodge ram 1500 4.7L 5spd 4x4 its sittin at 166,000 kms. i havent had any leaks or anything of that nature since i've owned it and thats with conventional motor oil ... if i switch over will i run that risk of things starting to leak?
