How many tire chains do I need?
I have a 2010 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT 4x4. Any suggestions on the number of chains I need are helpful. Auto dealers I spoke with have given me varying answers. Some say 2 chains for rear wheels only. Others say 4 chains for all wheels. Others say 2 chains for front wheels only. I don't know what's right!

I worked for a construction company building overhead power lines, and we would chain up our trucks in the winter, and we would only put them on the front. We would put chains on the back only if we needed a little extra traction. Most of your weight is in the front of your tuck so you would get better traction, and stopping traction. If it were me, i would only buy 2 and put them on the front where most of the weight is.

i chain up my truck for work almost on a daily bases now some leases require it (2008 25000kg frightliner body job)and we typically run three one on either side on the forward dual drive axle and one on the passanger side steer axel.. a cover your *** incase it lets go you dont shread your steering linkage.
that being said. i know your steering linkage is tucked outta the way in a pick up my concern for a 4X4 is if one lets go on the forward wheels the you run the risk of damaging your CV's and everything else with it..
i dunno if you have a 1500 or 2500+ series. something to keep in mind anyways. if you are running a solid axle then i would go with the three chain setup
