Motor trend did some testing. Here is the article and the Ford is very impressive. Look at the MPG for the Ford and it still bet the Ram and Chevy in towing!

Amazing what a turbo can do to efficiency.

 

It's still a turbo charged engine, they should compare a non aspirated truck with the same same. Not to mention...I don't believe this BS to be non biased anyway...who's to say this guy who tallied the results doesn't drive a Ford? Screw Ford, he he! I can't wait to run across one of those big mouth eco boost turbos with my truck... lol!

 

Let's also remember that the Ford beat the Dodge from 0-60 by 12 seconds but after the 3.5 mile uphill run the Ford was only ahead by 3.2 seconds. Sounds to me like the Dodge was actually faster once up and running. The Ford has a much lower 1s through 3rd gear and allows the F-150 to get a big jump on both the Ram and Chevy. Also, the Chevy only had the 5.3 liter engine. If I am going to be pulling 9,000 pounds with a gas Chevy it would be the 6.2 liter. That would have levelled the playing field.

Still it is great to see Ford putting down strong numbers from a turbo V6. I wonder how their new 5.0 would have done against the Ram? I am still trying to decide between the two vehicles and leaning toward the Ram right now.

I test drove the new 2011 F-150, with the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost and 5.0L & 6.2L V8s. These new Fords Rock. I had a chance to pull a 6,500 pound enclosed trailer with the EcoBoost F-150...it will out accelerate my 2005 Ram 2500 with a 5.7L V8 (4.56 gears) pulling my 5,000 pound travel trailer! This is a 3.5L V6 vs. a 5.7L V8. The new 6.2L Ford would do even better I am sure.

Do not discredit the new 2011 F-150.

 

The Ford had 3.73 axle and the Ram a 3.92 and still got beat. I'll stick with my Ram but if gas goes back up to over $4 a gallon, the Fords 19 city/26 Hwy estimated economy will get my attention. I only tow a few times a year so the car like MPGs the rest of the time are an eye opener. I'll wait to see what Dodge does to counter Ford and in a few years if the Ford holds up.

 

Have those MPG numbers been confirmed? HOw are they getting better fuel economy than what they get in the Ford Ranger on a truck that is 1,500 pounds heavier? Or the Toyota Tacoma V6, or the Nissan Frontier V6, etc?

If those numbers have not been confirmed, I expect a 1 mpg improvement over the 5.0 on the highway and maybe 2 in the city.

Yawn.......I am not impressed, unable to compete HP/CID with the Hemi Ram Ford had to put a turbo on a six banger and threw cubic inches into the 6.2L. Its painfully obvious the 5.4L was never going to cut it and all the 2011 F-150's are still going to see is the big emblem on my tailgate...... the same view all previous generation Fords have been enjoying

 

First of all...like I said, it's turbo charged, second your truck is an 05 and slower than a 4'th gen Hemi, and last...it's faster than your truck...not mine, lol!
