Default Black painted chrome clad rims.

Just wondering whoever did this on their rims.

What kind of paint and technique did you use

How are they holding up to weather, any scratches or pealing.

I'd like to paint my chrome rims black for the winter but would like to do it right the first time, i just think that paint wont hold up to that cheap plastic chrome covers we have

I wanted to do it to my rims too, so I read up on how to do it properly. Of course sanding is a must, but I think the most important step after sanding is to get a primer that will cover flexible plastic, this will help prevent peeling.

yeah sanding for sure. There must be some kind of paint that would be preferable. What about powder coating, i dont have much experience with body work and paint but someone told me that it would hold up pretty good.

Reeseonfire did you paint your rims yet or still in the process?

ive had a few local body shops tell me they can powder coat wheels for a few hundred. powder coat definitely holds up better than spray painting your wheels

Errrr, powder coat goes in an oven to cure it, oven + plastic me thinks the plasic will melt or at least distort!

Yeah actually i read some threads and whatnot and plastidip it is! Thanks for telling about this product this is gonna be much cheaper then paying someone to do it. I might even get carried away with this stuff.

I have yet to find a Canadian home Depot that carries it.

In Edmonton, I find Home Hardware is the only retailer.
