power wagon with 4.56 gears gas mileage ??
1500 have MDS, less weight, and different gears. Low gears seem to get better mpg in town and pulling. The 1500 have higher gears, so less rpms on the highwya plus MDS equal 4 more mpg Then a 2500.
Are the 1500 getting 20 mpg on a regular basis, and if they are do the 4x4's get 20 mpg or only 2 wheel drive trucks.

Ah, ok, I thought all of them had MDS. They say up 20 MPG in advertisments ad such, but I have a freind that just bought a '10 4x4 and said he got at least that driving MI to FL and back. Another freind of mine works at the Viper plant and got a '12 company truck for some errands and was bragging at how it used literally 1/8 the fuel that he did making the same trip in his 04 F250...however, I do not recall if the Ram he drove was 4x4 or not.
I understood the 2500 being a little lower in MPG, but I guess if it doesn't even have MDS, that prolly explains it. What it doesn't explain is why the HD's don't have MDS. I'm sure it would work atleast as good as mine...the 06-08 with MDS doesn't work as well as the 09+...but does still work as we get better than the 02-05 guys. The biggest thing I think that would make it work better is to have it selectable as well as automatic. I know I'd love the ability to tell my truck to stay in 4 cyl no matter how hard I hit the gas. Just seems the HD's would have it because most people who have 2500 trucks don't necessarily use them for 2500 trucks ALL the time. I prolly should have a 2500 for what I put my truck through, but figured I can beef everything except the frame up and have mostly a 2500, except for the fact that if I beat it up too much, I'd twist the frame or something

Power wagon and miles per gallon is like that fat german kid eating ***** wonka chocolate.
but enjoy, thiers a lot miles per fun in a power wagon, soo sad thiers no more 6speed man in a 2500 hemi.
dual ex or cat back will improve mileage, well worth the cost, enjoy!!

I understand a PW, or any Ram or truck for that matter isn't the ideal choice for MPG, but it'd sure be nice to be able to have MDS on the PW, who beats on theirs ALL the time and never needs to slow it down JUST for transportation. I can't afford a toy vehicle and a driver vehicle right now, so I'd love to get like 18-20 MPG out of a PW like I do my current truck.
i have an 2011 PW and i can tell you from personal experience that you are NOT going to get anywhere near 20mpg in one. 14mpg over the interstate with my wife driving is the best i've ever seen out of it. with me driving its more like 13 to 13.5mpg. when your in town, forget about it. your down around 10 or 11. of course i wouldn't trade it for anything. i didn't buy it for the gas mileage. if gas hits $5 i'm still driving it. my PW is completely stock and unmodded with the exception of a back flip2 HD hard bed cover. if its any cosolation, my chevy avalanche 2500 with the 8.1L doesn't do any better. hope this helps.

What I find odd is that the 4th gen Hemis get like 20 MPG hwy. And 4th gen PW are so much worse than that according to this thread...granted everyone jumps to the 4.56 gears being the reason behind it...yet in many threads for 3rd gen Hemi's many guys claim they get a bit better MPG when upgrading to 4.10-4.56. I want a PW in a BAD way, but I also want a truck that can get 20 MPG in a bad way now that gas spiked to $4+/gal. How is this??
I have a 2012 2500 Crew Hemi 4x4 with 4.10 gears and 33" tires (285/70/17) and avg with a light foot 14 mpgs. Towing drops it to 10.5 mpg. Rpms in 6th gear are the same as my previous 09 Sport 4x4 with 3.92's due to the gearing of the 2012 and newer 6 speeds in the 2500's and the addition of the taller 33" tires. The 09 got in the 17.5 mpg range over the same terrain and driving conditions. The MDS really helps with mileage as well as the lighter weight. Prior to the 09, I had a 05 1500 Quad Hemi 4x4 with 3.92's which did not have the MDS. The avg was in the 15.5 mpg range. The MDS adds about 2 mpgs.
Realistically, I would expect about 13 mpg mostly highway from a new Powerwagon. Unless you can find fuel without the 10% ethanol, then you may be able to squeeze a little more out of it. None to be had around here though.
