Chrysler Extended Service Contract
I received a letter today from Chrysler for my 2011 Ram 1500 for an extended warranty offer. I’m looking at the “Added Care Plus 800 + covered components” plan and would like to hear from others that bought this plan and what they had to pay. I’m at 5 months old and 11,800 miles with no problems. Is this a good investment or should I go with Consumers Report that says the extended warranties are a poor investment?
Its my understanding that you can buy an extended Wty from Chrysler as long as you have existing warranty coverage on the vehicle.
If this is correct (and I believe it is) I'd hold that offer until you reach theend of your factory warranty to get a feel for the truck's quality and make a decision with all the information at that time.

I bought it for my 07 Grand Caravan and it was about $1100 for another 4 yrs bumper to bumper with a $100 deductible. It has a mielage thing too, but it's not an issue for me since we have had it since Feb 2008 and it only has 12K miles on it. We just use it to haul our handicapped son to wherever he needs to go. I has a Braun wheelchair conversion.
I actually just bought the Lifetime Max or whatever it's called. It's like the most expensive one, but it covers pretty much everything on the truck for the life of the vehicle. I never planned on buying it until I was in the last 1000 miles of my stock warranty. I've been having lots of electrical issues and the extended warranty is saving my ***. I waited until I was past the 35,000 mile mark and I don't think there was much of a penalty. Once your stock warranty runs out, then you're probably looking at a price jump. If you can go to 35,000 miles and not have any issues then you might not need it. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. These things aren't cheap to work on and if you don't have a warranty, you're looking at potentially spending over $1000 for one visit when it comes to electronics. Especially TIPMs and PCMs like I've had to have replaced.
