Ya, I know the 50 series flowmasters have 3 chambers vs 2 chambers in the 40 series, so logic says the 40 series flows better. I would be surprised if it wasn't at least as good as the stock muffler.

Bottom line is I'M happy with the sound and I guess we'll just have to see how long it lasts AND in the end if I have to drop some cash in a couple of years to slap a stainless catback system on then so-be-it.

Incidentally I've had it on the interstate and the sound in the cabin is just enough. That's one thing I've noticed about the Ram vs the Silverado I had, Dodge did a really good job of sealing the cabin from exterior noise.

Maybe I'm a fuddy duddy stick in the mud, but, the only way I like more noise is with more power. I like the way the stock hemi sounds and prefer to listen to my music without the loud exhaust. Now, I've had my share of loud cars but in each case it was due to a cam, ported heads and intake, with headers and carburation improvements. I can't do that today in California unless I go back and work on an old truck (I own a 1970 Jeep Grand Wagonneer 4x4 with the buick 350 and a turbo 400). My point here is that to spend money on noise is pointless - unless you want to have everyone hear you coming. My fastest cars were sleepers, balanced, blueprinted, long headers and quiet mufflers. I see a lot of truck around here that pull up next to me and they sound like crap but the drivers are usually young and clueless.

LOL, you guys really know how to welcome new members to your forum. To each their own Pedro, I'm sure you are far superior in every way to those young clueless idiots that pull up next to you in their loud trucks.

People spend money on all kinds of stuff that lots of other people think is pointless, but I guess that's what makes us individuals.

It has not been proven here that the 40 series flowmaster doesn't offer improved flow over the stock muffler, and therefore offer some miniscule amount of improved performance. I would be glad to check out any dyno results anyone would like to post up. The past experience offered by the other post discussed 50 series, not 40.

In the end I personally like the sound and it just makes me enjoy driving my truck that much more, and that's what it's all about.

Thanks for bombing this thread with all the negativity and criticism, Im out.

Look man, I'm sorry if you took this personal, I didn't mean it that way. I'm sure you've had vehicles pull up next to you that are so loud you wonder how anyone can stand it for very long. I will take the noise if I get some power in return not just to be heard coming, I'm not that insecure. Listen to Hammer, he knows what he is talking about. It's cool that you like the way your truck sounds, I'm sure it sounds great. That sound is not the sound I was referring to when I mentioned the clueless kids. If it makes any difference to you, most of the sucky sounding trucks I hear out here are chevys, it's hard to make them sound right with just a muffler change. The Hemi has more potential in my opinion. Peace brother.

Don't be so thin skinned, I'm sure nobody here meant to offend you, I know I didn't. I just pointed out that the Flowmasters aren't quite all their advertising makes them out to be and there are better choices out there in a non-chambered design with equally good sound but much better flow.
You're not flowing much worse than stock and I don't doubt that it sounds really good. What it comes down to in the end is if you are happy with it...

My opinion, these trucks come stock with a decent stainless catback setup. You could have done a mufflex retro kit with a 14" Magnaflow for the same price with stainless extensIons and installed yourself in about 30 minutes since the stock one comes right off. Swap out the slowmaster for a free flow muffler, a few good choices and sound clips around here.

Everyone on here keeps saying the stock exhaust is stainless. Has anyone looked under their trucks? I have an '11 with the dual tips through the bumper and none of it is stainless. I installed a magnaflow on it last night and all the stock stuff is already coated with rust, and when I checked it with a magnet, it stuck. So at least on mine its not stainless, at the cost of stainless, id be surprised if any come with it stock.

I think the exhaust material is alumninized steel - not sure about the spelling

Don't know if it is stainless or not, but a magnet isn't much of a test to determine if something is stainless steel.

In general 400 series stainless is magnetic, 300 series is not. 17-? (aircraft type) is also magnetic

Most exhaust is 300 series, but I agree a magnet might not be the best test. I would assume all of the rust would be a better test though. I would agree with the above post, its probably aluminized not stainless.
