I know people will say to search for a thread, but i did not find one that could help me decide what to do.

I have a stock 2009 Dodge ram 1500 4x4 with the 20 inch wheel option.
I am looking for an all terrain tires. I do probably 60% highway/city driving 40% off highway (mud, snow, gravel, sand). I do tow quite frequently but i mainly stick to the highway when towing. I am an active hunter so i need something that does well in mud and snow.

I have done some research on what to get but dont know if one is better than the other. Here is where i am at:
I have a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers, i think they have 50 -55 K miles on them and its time to replace, the issue is the price at 250 a piece.

i looked for other otions and wanted to know other take on these tires, they all have atleast a 50,000 mile warranty.

My son in law has the Cooper Discoverer 20 inch on his 4x4 Avalanche,loves them says they are bullet proof.

 

You're gonna get 74 guys respond with 28 different tire choices on this question, it's inevitable.

Honestly, first thing I'd do is ditch the heavy a$$ stock 20" wheels and get you some nice 17" wheels. You'll gain infinite performance off pavement AND increase your towing capacity significantly. At the same time you'll save a bundle on tires and have a lot more choices out there.

As far as a true All-Terrain, I like the Mickey Thompson ATZs, Nitto Terra Grapplers, Toyo Open Country AT & Cooper Discoverer AT3s about the best of what's out there. I also know a couple of guys with Firestone Destination ATs who swear by 'em, but I have no experience with them myself...

 

I just bought these for my 09 4x4, LOVE THEM! I was in Northern WI the past few days and had a snow storm, no problems. I even drove in 2wd most of the time.

 

Hammer, Not looking to buy new rims at this time. for my towing i stay with in the dodge recommend towing for my year of truck. So i would just replace the tires.

 

See if you like the Nitto trail grappler, I've had em off-road on hwy and while towing and have nothing wrong to say about em.

 

I have the Firestone Destination AT's on my 20 inch rims now and with a little bit of weight over the rear axle they have been really good. I have about 15k on them now and they are wearing very, very good. I to do a lot of highway driving and they are very well mannered and not loud at all on the freeway. I also hunt and tow frequently and they do very well in both situation's. Now I wouldn't take them down an old logging trail but in and out of the wood's with a little bit of rain or snow and they are fine. The best part of them is I got them for $189 a piece from a Firestone dealer. If you like these tires wait for a sale and save a bunch of money.

ram recommended specs are 1000 pounds higher with factory 17 inch wheels when compared to factory 20 inch wheels. i think that was the point he was trying to make.

 

I should have mentioned, mine are Cooper Discoverer AT3's....
