What cab lights- are the mopars worth it? Hard to do on 4th gens?
you got that one backwards. at the dealership we were constantly replacing burnt out bulbs on the mopar lights whether we put them on or they came from the factory. we started offering the recons as an upgrade and i cant remember ever having an led go out. plus with the bases the recons have that the mopar ones dont they are easier to get to seal on the roof and are less likely to leak. i've probably installed about 50 sets of mopar ones and a dozen recons while i was working at the dealership. installation is easier with the template though, we kept the mopar template to use with recon installations. recon should include a template.
just keep an eye on that rubber seal we found that extremes from heat and cold did them in and once they start to crack they leak. i'm not saying the mopars are bad, i think the recons have a little better design for preventing leaks and the led bulbs never seem to burn out. the led bulb upgrade is a good one to do.
i wouldnt have thought that yours were mopar jayman84 the only ones we ever got in were orange plastic covers which was another turn off for me. the orange lights are fine but i never liked the orange covers during the day. the recon smoked is what everyone wanted when they came in for them.

Yeah 'twas those ugly orange plastic lights that had me going for the Recons back when I did mine. I really liked the Recon smoked lights, but they had black bases and I wanted the chrome to go with all my stainless steel and diamond plate. One of these days I may buy a smoked set for mine and swap the caps out...
I want the clear ones, as I think it looks best on a dar colored car with lots of chrome.
I'm definately doing the bulb upgrade prior to installing them. Does anyone know what bulb they use? and is it an amber bulb or is it an amber reflector inside the white lights? then I can order the LEDs ahead of time and install them as soon as I get them! Or what is the official name for those lights because searching the manual I can't seem to find it, even though it lists every other bulb. (Its a factory option on the 2500s and 3500s, so shouldnt it be in the manual?)
Thanks for the pics jayman. Your truck looks great. (side note, does your bull bar interfere with the tow hooks? I've been wanting a bull bar but every year I have had to use my tow hooks...)

I just finished doing my 2011 Ram and he is right...there is a plug in the right A-pillar for the cab lights. Also, I only took the A-pillars, visors and center console off and that gave me enough room to get under the headliner for the wiring...instructions say to take the B-pillars off too, but that's a hassle and you really don't need to. It really sucks that recon doesn't include a template, but they do give you a guide for measurements in their download section. Just make sure you have your measurements correct before you drill.
Also does anyone know if the Recon bulbs for the dodge kit have LED's in them already. Reason i'm asking is because i bought some Recon smoked cab lights for my old man's ford and those one's came with good old orange halogen bulbs. I'm thinking the dodge version have led's already in them but i guess i'd have to email recon to know. Also i'd like to put white led's instead of amber because my parking lights are also white (360 switchback led). Are the recon cab lights servicable, just pop the plastic off to change bulb type of thing?
If any of you guys with who have gotten or are getting the Mopar kit and can either send me or trace the template when you are through with it, I'd appreciate it and will pay for the postage.
I'd like to make copies and make it available for anyone on the forum who chooses to do this who buys a kit other than the Mopar. Just PM me and I'll give you my address...
