I hear ya there at least were only registering -19 Celsius now!...I however plug mine in :P But I did cold start it just to see if it would start, so that when I go somewhere and don't have the option to plug in, that way I know it would start. Yup started right up, did the same as yours. It doesn't like it one bit! But that's why I plug in when I can haha.

So for all you guys out there complaining of -10 or even 0...trade you? haha

That truck sounded like it was frozen!!!! -9 is as low as I have had to start mine and besides the normal sounds it was fine. I bought the truck in VA, I moved back home to NH and never thought about getting a block heater for it. How hard are they to install?

Hahaha nice. Sounds like the chevy told you it didn't like that at all. I'm currently in northern manitoba and the last two days it was -37C, -50 with the wind. My buddy's 2011 1500 did not start, but apparently needed a new battery.

As for the block heater i don't think it's very complicated, to be honest i have no idea how it installs but i bet it's simple. They mostly come standard in Canada.

Never pluged mine in and don't intend to. It's droped to -30 here and never had a problem. I run Mobile one synthetic and just let her warm up before taking off.

I think many of our rams will "not have a problem", but I think it can get a little hard on it, most especially when its that cold for a week like it has been here. If I have the chance to get that block "warmer" then it being frozen I will. Your motor will not receive as much stress, because it is getting that oil around much faster because things are warm, providing the proper lube for the parts.

Has anyone installed a water heater in their truck? I have seen a few pickups with them installed. Basically all it does is heat and circulate the water through the motor to keep it warm. You can set it on a timer, or just turn it on half hour before you leave. Your motor does not have to start for this, not to mention it will be pretty warm already when you go to drive eliminating the need to start it (a while) before you leave. I have seen a guy that put it in his durmax, he wired it into his interior fan so when the heater turned on it circulated warm air into the cab.
Has anyone ever done this? Im curious if it would work on the ram with all its electronics. Might be a little pricey to some, but up here its probably worth it. Also I was looking at what appeared to be "fully electric" heaters, run off 12v. Seems kinda odd to me but just thought I would throw that out there...

They start in cold weather. Coldest fore was -52C. Without wind. Driving Down the highway couldn't even get the engine temp to get up. Tranny temp was still under 40 where the gauge starts. They don't like it but these trucks are troopers. Our 09 evo won't even start in -40.

Anything below -30 I plugin.

but starts just fine with no scary sounds down to -30
we just had a week of -20 to -37.

syn oil is a good thing in the cold. and let it warm up before you drive it.

Oddly enough, the recent cold is what's gotten me seriously considering buying a Ram-it's been below -30*C here (Whitehorse, Yukon) for about two weeks now, and my Jeep was almost frozen solid for most of it. But everybody I know with a Ram got it started every day.
