I want your input on performances, MPG and hauling capacity... Not what's on paper but the real thing...

Thanks in advance

i will reply since no one else has. this is based on what i have read on a few forums. mpg is the same or very close to a hemi. check jeep liberty forums. then add 1800 lbs and and thats your real mpg. underpowered in full size pick up. i don't believe you can get 4x4 with the 3.7. if you are looking at this for mpg reasons you will be very disapointed. you can wait for 13s and the pentastar, and be happy or wait to end of year clearance and and maybe get very cheap. let us know what you do.

Well in my case, my truck is already bought and will receive it within 2 weeks. I've read a lot of forum and review that stated that it was underpowered for a pickup... Again, it all depends on what you want to do with it... For me, Hauling represent only maximum 5% of the truck usage. I got it for the look and comfort it gives... So I don't realy need a monster engine like the HEMI (I also heard a few story about it and the MPG is not that great) The heaviest I will tow will not be more than 3000 pounds so... Again, don't need a HEMI.

I wanted a real life experience as nothing beat the real thing, and not only numbers on a paper...

Thanks a lot anyway...

3.7 engine in my liberty was Reliable!, Weak!, and very bad on gas! Transmission blown @ 54K. Never beat on it of took it off road. You will more than likely be disappointed. Be sure to use some sort of K&N drop in filter, and Synthetic oil to save some on gas. It does help. You must have the transmission flushed @ 35K

Have a 2011 1500 with a 3.7 that I use for work and have put over 7,000 miles on it since November.. It gets an average of 450 to 475 miles on a tank of gas. I have over loaded it many times and it doesn't seem to mind. Haven't really pulled any thing behind it...yet...Performance is pretty good as compared to the 2006 4.7 and the 2001 5.2 that I used to drive. The ride quality is superior to the '06 and '01.

So that gives you an average of 18 MPG more or less... Depending if you spend much of your milage in town or highway must swing the number a bit...

Thanks for the input

I had a 3.7L in my 2006 Dakota and it felt underpowered in that truck. I don't want to think about it in a full size RAM. The gas mileage when babied might be slightly better than the hemi but not enough to inspire someone like me to save a few bucks on buying an underpowered and underwhelming engine.

I guess its all depends on your expectation...

Your Dakota weighted 1932 Kg with a 3.7L, I've own a Dodge Caravan for 10 years (1773kg) with a 3.3L, it wasn't a race car but it had some punch when I needed it... A Ram 1500 (the trim I've ordered) weights 2222Kg, So about 300Kg more than your Dakota, plus I have the 3.92 gear which will give me a bit more juice on accel... If I wanted a race car, I would have bought a VIPER

Thanks for your input...

I'm just saying from my experience the 3.7L is a dog. Not enough power for a pickup. I'd even take the 4.7L over the 3.7L. The fact of the matter is you're going to be paying a decent chunk of money for a truck with an engine that really is probably going to get 18mpg on a good day especially with 3.92 gears when you could spend a bit extra and get the 4.7L or a little more and get the Hemi both of which are much better engines. My Dakota had 3.55s and the gas mileage was atrocious for a V6 pickup truck. If you really must have a V6 in your Ram I urge you to wait and get a Pentastar. At least that 3.6L Pentastar is respectable, that's why it's replaced the 3.7L.

If you absolutely have your heart set on the 3.7L I'd recommend it in a Dakota over a RAM. You could get a pretty loaded out Dakota for the price you would be paying for a 3.7L Ram with lesser options.
