I can see a Turbo setup being slapped on that pentastar in the near future to compete with ford.

The new 3.6 is a nice engine, 8 speed will help it out for sure.

Anyone know if the 8 speed trans is an all-new Chrysler design or will it be based of an existing design like Ford did with the 6R80?

It is likely the same transmission they are using behind the V-6 challengers and the V-6 charger & 300 cars. If true, its likely the ZF 8-speed, not designed by chrysler, BUT, rumor has it, chrysler is building them in their new facility. Someone else in here will likely chime in with the real facts. I`ve only read and heard rumors, so my findings might not be really true facts. One thing i do know is a true fact, i wont buy one anytime very soon.

The Ford 6 speed is a ZF design they are building themselves with a few tweaks, the one in my Mustang is holding up great with an extra 200 hp. I know the F150s are having some trans issues but they are doing great in the Mustangs (same trans).

I just traded my wife's hemi commander on a new 3.6 grand cherokee, love the truck and the engine - the eight speed will really help it out if it works but I'll wait a couple years before I bete-test one. Dont think it will help the hemi much..

LU229, yeah your right on the 8 speed. Check out this article. Its been coming for a few years. Chrysler first had to build a brand new assembly plant.
