Default Line-X Spray Coating on Front Bumper?

I have an '09 Ram 1500 with the grey painted bumpers. I have a lot of chips in the paint that are rusting and it looks horrible. The dealer has already replaced the bumper once for the same problem. At the time I looked in to getting the clear vinyl protective cover but the local company wanted $400. A new painted bumper cost about the same.

I've thought about switching to chrome. The dealer wants $500 and I have seen some on ebay for around $300. But from what I've read in some of the threads that may not be the solution. I even bought a "Le Bra" cover that was made for it and it worked until I got a pebble stuck under it. The rock rode around for a while and scratched up the paint on the fender.

However, a coworker of mine took his new Jeep to the our local Line-X and they sprayed his for grill for $65. It actually looks good. He plans on getting his bumper done next. So I stopped in and had them look at my truck. They said if I take the bumper off and bring it to them they would spray it for $100.

If it works out I would have the rear done to match. If it doesn't then I can still switch the bumpers to chrome. Either way the current front bumper is trashed. (it is embarrassing for such a tough truck to have such a crappy looking bumper)

Anyone have any experience with this? Any thoughts? Something I may not be taking in to consideration? Thanks!

I had my chrome front and rear sand blasted cause it was chrome then had them powdercoated. 300 total money. Its durable more than regular paint but when they get chipped up im doing line -x. Thats the way to go.

lin ex will chip, but easy to dab a little bed liner back on it. i would scuff op the bumber myself and bed line it my self, cost a lot less than paying some one else to do it.

Line-X on the bumper may actually provide an additional "benefit" as it creates a rough non-reflective 'stealth' surface, thereby creating a surface that should be pretty much immune to a LASER speed gun

Now if we can just work on stealthing those pesky headlights and front license plates (in those states where they are required). License plates can be effectively masked with a pair of laser shifters, though at substantial cost.

I am thinking about doing the same thing. On the fence and can't decide to paint (color match), black Line-X, or Color match Line-X. If you pull the trigger post up some pics... I will do the same.

I think I am going to do it. I found Chrysler service instructions for removing the bumper online at the link below. I'll be giving it a shot on Wednesday. I'll will post pic's.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page for instructions:

Hmmm....brings up a good point. Are there any state laws against spraying the front bumper with a non reflective coating? Jus' wondering.

had both the front and rear Line-X'ed and I love it sorry no pics. I would recommend it Black Looks really good against my inferno red. Never seen it color matched. I would do it again on my next truck.
