Yes this is correct, some people have claimed to have the truck say ECO and not have 4 cylinders kick in...However IMO I think that is false. The only way to be 100% sure tho is to install a cylinder detection light, or hear it directly from dodge. BUT I imagine they will tell you what you want to hear...The way it works is the truck senses the amount of power your motor is using, speed of the vehicle, and your throttle percentage, (probably even more then that) Combines them all and decides if the truck can run on 4 cylinders. It is pretty neat technology if you think about it, because it activates in about .4 milliseconds.

Some people hate his technology, some people love it. Personally I love it! It works well for me, mainly because I am in alberta where the highways are reasonably flat. Not to mention the max speed on our highways are 110km/h. So because I don't speed often it keeps the Hemi in the range where MDS kicks in. I get around 22 MPG by doing so, which IMO is perfect because according to my buddy who has an ecoboost, thats all he ever does.

However sometimes it becomes a pain, I find this tech uses more fuel when your in the city and hilly areas. Which is why some people will tell you they disable MDS. However for me in the city I usually run in manual mode anyways. I find my mileage takes a bump to around 16 in the city by doing this over the 15 I would usually get. Not to mention MOST drivers are stupid when I go into calgary, so by running manual and keeping the RPMs a little higher it seems I get a little better response times. You will find that out on your own, with whatever works best tho.

is it true that on these new trucks its harder on fuel until the break in period is done? i get about 13MPG highway and only have 600km on the truck. how long is a typical break in period?

Whenever you pull the battery off for any longer period of time it will reset the computer. The whole system has to relearn all the sensors and everything. For me (25k kms) it usually takes around 40 kms for it to relearn itself...

IF I remember right there was a little brake in period but I don't think it was that long..
