The 2013 Ram V6 is the most efficient 1/2 ton truck
The point here is not the # of cylinders but the displacement. So the new smaller V6 are smaller packages then the inline 6, so the truck design/package is sleeker -more aerodynamic. That is a way to get more MPGs, that's why the 2013 Ram will get more than the 2012. The hydraulic lowering suspension system, the grill shutter system, the electronic power steering, etc. But if they can get 350 to 400 FT/LB at a lower RPM with a diesel V6, than the hemi then the V6 diesels with turbos will fit most folks needs.
My wife's 2011 Charger has the V6 in it. I'm not too impressed. It runs fine but just seems to lack the power I'd want if I drove it daily. No issues with the motor though. Hope Dodge gets the gearing right on it for their trucks.
My concern with these Ecoboosts is that if it's loosely based off of the MZR from Mazda before all the shares were sold, then I wonder how many people are going to be throwing rods because of the "zoom zoom boom" us Mazdaspeed guys have to be careful with.
Although Ford did some impressive tests with it and its been out or a couple yrs, i felt exactly the same way. That and the fact lots of people say you have to baby it to get the milege they say it gets, i wanted the 5.0, been making it 100 years. But Ford didn't want in either so I'm very happy in my new 5.7 Ram.
