Default K2motors.com?

I apologize for this being my first post on here. Been a member now for a few months but haven't had anything to say or ask until now. Also, if this is the wrong area to post this question, I apologize as well.

Anyhow, I recently purchased a set of Spec-D black housing headlights from K2motors.com for my 2011 and my card was charged the follow day. Today I received a email from them stating that I need to make a copy (front & back) of my credit card along with a copy of an ID and email or fax it over to them. Does this sound fishy to anyone else?

I'm thinking about cancelling my order with them and going elsewhere. Has anyone had negative or positive feedback from K2? I just don't see why I need to fax/email proof of ID for a charge under $200.00.

I would ask for a FULL REFUND and shop elswhere's. I've never heard of that and would never allow such a thing. Definately fishy! Whether it was intercepted by a scammer or it's by them???

There are plenty of places to shop online. I'd go elsewhere and if they give you a hard time about the refund, I'd dispute it to your credit card company and provide them with the copy of the email where K2motors asks for photocopies.

I wouldn't give photocopies of anything of mine...ever! With your Driverliscence info and CC#, you could be taken for on that card and on many more that get applied for!

*I also wouldn't verify ANYTHING but your name and order # to cancel the order and get a refund. I wouldn't provide your address or your credit card information!!!

Might want to take this a step further and immediately call your credit card company to have that transaction reversed and also put them on alert that you may have some fraudulent charges coming through soon.

Why do they need images of the card and I.D.? Like most everyone here, made plenty of online orders via credit card (since the 90s when sites were a lot less safe) and I've never once been asked for that info. Don't care if they have an eBay store or actual storefront, makes absolutely no sense.

They're going to verIfy your credentials after they've already charged you? They have no legal authority to request these items.

Definitely cancel the order if you can, report the activity to your card issuer, file a complaint with the BBB if you have the patience and thanks for the heads up on this questionable site.

Thanks for the advice gentlemen and I will be cancelling my order today while shortly after calling my credit card and informing them. However, I finally got an email back from K2 explaining why they need these copies. They stated that the IP address I used to make the purchase is "too far away" from the billing address my credit card goes to.

I buy a lot of things online and I have never once heard of this. I'm in the military and did use my government work computer when I purchased the lights but that shouldn't matter, right?

I am surprised K2motor.com is doing this because I've read a lot of good reviews about them on here and other sites.

That is an odd reason since your IP does not neccessarily imply a location, especially if your provider has a large private network infrastructure. If you are convinced they are a valid business then I would just pay them via Paypal since it sounds like they take that form of payment. Regardless of reasoning I would never provide front/back copies of a drivers license or credit card.

Yea, I even asked "are you serious" when they wanted me to fill out this form with the copies. They must lose a lot of buisness by this. I'm certainly not spending money with them.

Yeah, a lot of these anti-fraud services that merchants pay for use ip geolocation to try to figure out where an order comes from based on ip address, but they are wrong a lot of the time. I'm in Seattle area and have been identified as being in central canada (even by google!). At work we deal with this type of stuff a lot, where our machines in one country are detected as being on different continents. I think the services are worthless.

Update: I cancelled my order with K2 and found the same set on Amazon for $18 cheaper. I'm sure K2 wasn't going to do anything fraudulent with my card/ID but there is no way I was going to email/fax that type of information.
