Hey, I'm just an HVAC tech. but I do still wear the uniform. A good buddy of mine is from Little Rock, he's a maintainer for the C-135s, and was stationed at Offutt in Bellevue, NE for the longest time. He's now made MSgt and got relocated to Davis-Monthan in AZ.

On the 4.7 thing. Owned two of them. One in a 2001 Dakota Quad Cab and one in a 2011 Ram Reg Cab. The Dakota wasn't bad as I lived in Florida at the time and it would get up and scoot.

The 2011 Ram was ok but here in NC with hills it drove me crazy. It would always downshift on the simplest of grades. Just too underpowered, at least to me, moving a 2 1/2 ton truck around.

The Hemi barely even tries. I get almost the same gas mileage. Main reason I don't I think is I have a 4.10 rearend vs. the 3.55's I had before.

Now the 3.6, that's not a bad motor. Not the fastest but can keep up just fine. My wife has that in her Grand Cherokee which weighs nearly the same as my truck. There's more torque which helps and keeps it from needing to kick down. That motor loves the highway too. Smooth without any fuss. Also, pretty easy to change the oil on. Her's has 55k and never even the slightest issue.

Hope that helps....

Victory Rider, don't worry about the 3.92 ratio With the tall tires cruising at 70 mph its only turning 1900-2000 rpm still very low considering a motor that will turn nearly 6000 rpm safely. I've had them in two different trucks and wouldn't ever be without them again. My dealer had to find my truck in another city because I wanted the 3.92's. They are the only way to go with the tall 20's unless you have some 4.10's sitting around or even 4.56's, but they rev a little too much for everyday driving...but boy they are fun. My buddy had them in a 04 rcsb hemi truck and boy it would accelerate. You'll get decent mileage as long as you don't drive 80 all the time. Should be good for 17-19 mpg fairly easily. Get it and enjoy it.

Is the 4.7 a piece of crap or just cheaper because of the performance difference ? Ive seen a lot of the older trucks for sale with 4.7s that had to be replaced around 90 to 100 K.
victory rider,

I'm not sure if you have had an opportunity to test-drive both engines, but a comparison should give you a solid indication of what to expect from a drivability stand point. The Hemi is a proven engine that has been an trusted option for the Dodge Ram for over 10 years.
