Yeah, I just cannot understand the complaints about mileage. My Hemi QC gets the same mpg as my son's Ford Ranger reg cab V6. That's friggin awesome to me! I just don't know what else they can do. Most trucks are now quad cab minimum which makes them much larger then the average 80's trucks.

my 2014 HEMI 4x4 3.92 is getting better mileage than my 2001 durango SLT 4x4 with a 4.7L and 3.55s. Plus I'm getting 160 more HP.

Angry My poor mileage 2014 2500 Ram 4X4 Hemi

Even assuming you've got a 4x4 with the 3.92 axle in a Crew Cab, you are way below the normal average (10-14 MPG). There is either something very wrong with your vehicle or your driving style. My last twelve tanks, hand calculated, were as follows: 22.86, 17.69, 18.91, 23.03, 22.74, 23.09, 18.87, 18.73, 21.27, 20.35, 22.06. The 17.69 was all short trip city driving and I would judge to be my worst driving scenario. The two tanks in the 18s were dragging three ATVs at 70+ MPH.
Everyone else I've talked to is getting better than 18 average.

Regards,
Dusty
I have the 2500 CC 4x4 Hemi, Longbed, 3.73 gear set, 6 speed Auto.

With Light trailer loads, I get 8-11 mpg, No Trailer, I get 11-15 mpg staying BELOW 70 mph and usually drive 65-68 mph.

With a Livestock bumper pull and 2 Longhorn steers in tow, I only get 9-10 mpg while driving no more than 65 mph.

With my 454 1996 Chevy 1 ton Auto and 3.73, I repeatedly got 12 mpg pulling a 12,000 lb. travel trailer on I 80 in Utah and Wyoming.

My Hemi is horrible on mileage and it has been back to the dealer for reprogramming that Did NOT help at all.

Which engine do you have? 5.7 or 6.4?

I don't mind the mileage on these trucks I just need something that is heavy duty as the old school trucks. For fuel economy I'll drive a car. Thats what I do with my 98 ram and thats why it only has 54k miles.

You got slightly less gas mileage pulling 12,000 pounds with that Chevy truck than I ever did in a 1966 Caprice with the same motor. The best that car EVER did was 15 MPG, and that was with 3:08 gears.

For some reason I assumed you were driving a Ram 1500, so my gas mileage results can't compare to a three-quarter ton truck. I have no personal experience with 3/4 ton trucks. I did ask my neighbor who has a landscape business and he said his last batch of 3/4 ton conventional cab GMCs averaged around 14 around town naked, which is the reason he's going to half-tons except for snow plowing.

There are no EPA figures for 3/4 ton and up trucks. Consumer Reports lists the fuel mileage for the 3/4 ton F150, Ram, and Silverado, but they are all diesels. Based on what you're telling us, except for highway you are getting better mileage with the gas motor.

Maybe some Ram 2500 folks can comment.

Good luck,
Dusty

2014 Ram Big Horn 1500 Quad Cab 2WD, 5.7 Hemi, 8HP70, 3.92 LSD, factory dual exhaust, 20” wheels. Now at: 007900 miles.

What truck do you have?

My previous truck (2013 Ram 1500 Express Crew 2X4, 6 spd auto, open rear 3.55,HEMI) averaged a calculated 16.5-17mpg in mixed driving (75% city), 20-21mpg highway average. My 2014 Ram 1500 Crew BigHorn 4X4 HEMI (3.21 limited slip), 8spd. averages 18-19mpg in mixed driving (same % as above), and 23-24mpg in highway miles (hand calculated is usually within .5-1mpg). I know folks with eccoboost F150's that don't get what I am getting. Don't know anyone with a GM truck getting similar mileage.
