2016 Ram 1500 Towing Questions
Hello, I have searched and can't find a post that answers my question.
I'm considering buying a travel trailer and I want to make sure my truck can handle it. I chatted with mopar and they say my truck can only town 5000 lbs at 500 lbs tongue weight. According to my account at dodge.com. I can tow 10,190 lbs and have a payload of 1520 lbs. I can't find any thing about tongue weight and it has a factory installed IV reese hitch.
2016 Ram Big Horn Crew Cab 4x4
5.7 L V8 Hemi MDS WT
3.92 Rear Axle
235 MM Rear Axle
215 MM Front Axle
Can I tow the 5000lbs or 10,190lbs as I thought when I bought the truck?
If I can tow 10.190lbs, how can I determine the specs of my factory reese hitch, tongue weight, and pull weight??
Anyone with a simular truck have experience towing 6-7000 lbs have input on how the truck handles?
The camper my wife likes is a 33 ft 6000lb camper... I wanted to stay smaller but happy wife is happy life!!!!
Thank You,
Mark

When i take my 2011 1500 VIN # and plug it in to the decoder under "tools" above it gives me the info below. It breaks down the max towing based on a WD Hitch or Dead Weight. Armed with this information i visited several RV forums/sites, along with some google searches, to get more info on RV towing. Also downloaded a departure/arrival checklist that helped quite a bit since i was new to all this. Dead Weight Hitch - Max Trailer Wt.5000 lbs 5000.0 min 5000.0 maxDead Weight Hitch - Max Tongue Wt.500 lbs 500.0 min 500.0 maxWt Distributing Hitch - Max Trailer Wt.10200, 6700, 8700 lbs 6700.0 min 10200.0 maxWt Distributing Hitch - Max Tongue Wt.1530, 1005, 1305 lbs 1005.0 min 1530.0 max
