Thinking of buying an early 4th Gen 1500 truck, questions..
So I'm in the need for a new "used" truck. I love the 4th gen body styles, but being on a budget I would be looking at trucks with around 100k miles maybe even up to 140k miles. I need a 4x4 truck, I would perfer a quad cab. How do these trucks hold up with mileage? I have always heard dodge transmissions arent good, is this the case with these 4th gens? Does the muilti displacement system have issues, do these trucks burn oil because of this? Any common issues, or certain years to run away from? I'm either buying one of these dodges, or maybe a 2007+ silverado, which I feel I can trust the drivetrain in the chevy, i'd probably look for one with a 4l80 or 6L80 transmission.
Thanks, I did try to search.

i just bought a '09 4x4 1500 regular cab 8ft box. 89k miles. haven't put enough miles on it to know of any complaints so far. I don't care for the power drivers seat....takes too much time to get to the storage tray in the back. Some have problems with lifter/cam of the hemis & exhaust manifold bolts, but I don't know how big the issue is (how many bad per hundred vehicle percentage??). It's a lot different than my old 99 1500....hope I learn to like it.
I have worked for both companies...had 2 sierria's gmt800's.... 2000 4.8L 1500 & 2006 6.0L 2500
and 2 dodge... 3rd gens 2005 1500 hemi & 2007 2500 hemi.
have not seen any oil consumption issues with the hemi. Chevy had crazy issues with the 5.3 afm. Do not touch a 5.3 built between 2007 and 2010. The issue was fixed late 2009.
the 4th gen ram trans have held up just as good or better than the 4l60 4l65. 6speed chevy trans were pretty good.
chevy fixed their manifold bolt problems...ram has not
hemi has way more ***** than the vortec. vortec gets better mileage.
-if your into 2500's the chevy ride is better due to the independent front suspenion

Wish i could help, but i dont think one is any better than another... they all make good and bad trucks. Google some reviews an see what you find.
If your buying a truck with 100k or more, i think your just asking for problem after problem. Alot will depend on how rough of a life it had throughout its life.

2009 & 2010 Hemi rams had torque converters that rattled. Loose spline shaft inside would rattle in the turbine hub. Didnt hurt them any, but just something to be aware of in the 6-speeds.
The 6-speed hemi trannys pretty much bullet proof. The intro of 8-speed ZF`s in 2013 are a really good transmission too. Hands down superior to anything chevy or ford has.
