2013 Ram 1500 Big Horn Engine Wiring Harness
Good Day Fellow Ram 1500'ers. I'm in a dilemna that so far, Dodge as well as my dealership has been unable to solve. I am trying to find a Engine Wiring Harness for a 2013 Ram 1500 Big Horn with a 5.7L Hemi and a 6 speed Automatic Transmission. The Part number is 68144497AD. I have the MVP Service Plan that I bought with the truck back in 2013. I had an ECM failure along with a needed Engine Wiring Harness Replacement. Both parts are covered my my MVP Service Plan. Since May 24, 2021, I have been working with my Dodge Dealership and the Northeast Dodge Rep assigned to me to fix this issue. As of August 9, 2021, I have been told the following by the Northeast Dodge Rep.
1. The Engine Wiring Harness for the 2013 RAM 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi and 6 Speed Automatic Transmission has been discontinued as of 03/16/2020.
2. Attempts to find a new OEM supplied engine wiring harness cannot be found. Although I have the MVP Lifetime Service Plan and the part is covered, the one option for me is to work with the dealer to find a salvage part for my truck. This salvage part would void my warranty for the engine wiring harness for the future of the service plan because it is not an OEM part. If it is determined that the wiring harness was determined to have caused the failure of another component attatched to wiring harness, those parts will be void as part of the Service Plan due to the wiring harness being the cause for that components failure. They must prove that the wiring harness has a short.
3. We have now been looking for a salvage wiring harness for my truck since 8/09/2021 with no success. I have been without my truck except for a short 1.5 period where they put in the new ECM and it drove until the wiring harness blew the fuse to protect the new ECM just put in.
4. My other option is accept the purchase of a new Dodge vehicle where at such time, after the deal has been worked through, Dodge folks will come up with a CDI coupon which will tell me how much they are willing to give me as a discount for replacement of my current truck. I have until January 2022 to take this option. Anyone know if another year's truck (2014?..etc) wiring harness will work with my 2013? Thanks for any help!

These guys actually don't say its discontinued. Might try calling them, and see if they actually have one. It is a genuine OEM part, brand new. (if they have it.....)
If they don't, I would ask them how much they will give you for your truck before you do ANY kind of deal on it. If you already bought another one, you lose a lot of leverage. You need to figure out just how much your truck is worth to you.

Thanks for the find! This might be the last one in the world! I have a document from the dealership that states that they discontinued it last year. I sent them an email tonight and will call them in the morning. I'll let you know how things go.
I gave them a call and they said they have the part so I just ordered it. I just filed arbitration with FCA to see what happens on that end. If I get ziltch, then at least I'll have this as my resolution and I still get to keep my truck. But we will see how the arbitration goes. Thanks for finding that for me. I've been without my truck for a full three months and I'm about to lose my mind with these Dodge people.

The service person I talked to told me that they probably wouldn't consider it a Mopar OEM part because it didn't come from Mopar itself. He may be wrong on that but we'll see how things go from here with the arbitration. Worst thing for me is I have to pay for this harness and have it installed by them. Once I get the harness in and I have my arbitration results, I can decide what to do then. If things work out that they have to pull one off a truck at a Dodge Dealership somewhere or give me a good compensation for my truck, I'll at least have the wiring harness as a backup. These harnesses are going to get real rare, really quick so I can always re-sell it later if need be. Thank you so much for recommending that site. I can't tell you what this means for my mental health as to having to deal with this constantly. I absolutely love this truck but after this, I'm not sure I'll ever buy another Dodge again. To discontinue a part that has so many vehicles on the road still needing it really irks me. All these 2013 owners ( not to mention any Challengers, Chargers,..etc) that need this harness are going to have issues. It's a bad idea for them to discontinue this so early. It's going to **** off a good number of people who were devoted Dodge owners prior to this. Thanks again!
Back in the day.... wiring harnesses rarely, if ever, failed. They lasted the life of the truck. But, today's vehicles have more computer power in them than the entire Apollo program used..... and of course the harnesses are made with the 'barely adequate' wire sizes..... I thought that manufacturers were required to keep stock on parts for at least ten years after the vehicle was built.... Apparently, they aren't sticking to that any longer.
I would also be real curious where the harness was made.
Something I would point out to Dodge though, NO aftermarket company makes replacement wiring harnesses (stock ones, at any rate) for any of their recent vehicles. So, if you find a harness, it IS going to be a genuine Mopar part.

Your statement regarding the Mopar OEM parts is very interesting. I don't think the guy I talked to really knew about it so I'm giving him a break. He's actually the only one at the dealership who is actually trying to help me. The others are giving me great lip service and facial concern when I talk with them but nothing ever happens beyond that. Thank god there's another Dodge Dealership not too far away for me. It's not as convenient as this one but these guys aren't worth two cents. I've never been so discouraged by how I'm being treated by both the Ram Care Customer Rep and these dealership folks. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, be respectful and I'm not the type to yell and cause a scene but this place has almost got me there.
Some dealers are better than others...... But, they have to operate within the confines of their abilities/rules as well. Granted, "politicking" when they know they aren't going to lift a finger to help me is REALLY irritating.
Just got an email from Mopar Parts Giant. They just voided the order because the engine wiring harness has been discontinued. Well that was a nice thought. I guess the salvage yard is the only other option for this one. I'm going to have such a good time with this dealership moving forward. Thanks for trying to find me something. Have a good weekend.
