Default my horrible experience with dealerships and my truck...

A bit of a long read, but I suggest you read as if I read something like this it would have saved me a lot of headaches and probably money.

Bought a brand new dodge 2010 hemi quad cab in april of 2010. had 350 km's on it because they drove it up for me from the "big city". I live in a tiny town of 3500ppl in northern canada. The big city of edmonton is about 300 km's away from me.

So I get the truck. I was very excited because its the first new thing I have ever owned. A few older guys tried to talk me out of buying "new" because I could get a 2 year old nicer truck with more optiions for 10grand less. But I thought to myself I'm 29, going to be buying a house and starting a fmaily soon so I might as well buy it new because I don't think I would be able to afford a new truck later down the raod.

First problem on day one of owning it. It wouldn't go into 4 wheel drive high. The 4x4 would just keep flashing. I bought the truck on a friday so I thouhgt "I'll take it in later next week". Well later next week I was busy, and the week after the 4x4 started to work. So I put the problem in the back of my head.

2nd issue 3500km's. I was driving down a mud road in 4x4 high. Only went about 10km's of light mud. When I got back onto drive gravel road I switched it back to 2 wheel high. As soon as the transfer case flipped over the WHOLE truck shut down. I'm talking engine shut off and all electronics, head lights etc.. just shut down. I turned the key and nothing. Not even a click. just two lights on the dash board- check engine light and 4x4 service light. Got it towed into the dealership. It was May long weekend. THey were closed, so on tuesday morning I stopped in and they already had it in the shop and looking at it. The head technician said their computer would not read the 2010's so he had to fix it the old fashioned way. The dealership told me to check up on it the next day. I said "what am I supposed to drive in the meantime? I live outside of town, work everyday in town, and have to haul water... I need a truck.. " They said "we'll set you up with a rental"... I said "I just spent 40,000 on a truck from you 3 weeks ago... I am not paying for a rental.. this shouldn't happen.. ".. The agreed and gave me a 2005 dodge 1500 to use.

I checked up on my truck daily.. The tech had no clue what was wrong, he couldn't even get the truck to start. He figured it was electrical.. But he said again their computers weren't updated enough to read the trucks CPU.. so he said he woudl start replacing parts cheapest to most expensive until he found the one that was not working. Nice to hear eh?

a week and a half later they finally got the truck to start. The dealership told me they had to replace 3 expensive electrical parts until they finally replaced the main CPU and found out that is what was fried. They have no clue what friend the CPU to this day. The tech had no idea but he did tell me "there is a 50/50 chance your truck is fixed for good. I would not doubt there is a problem with your truck that we didn't find which caused the CPU to fry.".

I talked to the dealership about the truck and whats the next step. She said "well your truck is probaaly a monday truck.. you know, when the workers come in on monday really tired and try to asseble a truck".. again great to hear eh?

So I told the dealership I wanted the copies of all the work done to my truck. Responce was "why do you want those?"... I said "well I want the records so I can keep track in case this happens again and again..".. She said "oh don't worry... we keep records of everythin here so if if happens again we'll have it on record". I said "I want papers copies for myself to take home".. she said "well I don't have anything ready for you, come back in a few days". I came back and she said "sorry we are so busy I haven't had a chance to get them printed.. come back in a few days"..

I swear on my life I first asked for the copies of the work on June 5th 2010 and I called and stopped in every 2 or 3 days trying to get papers copies of the work done on my truck. EVERY 2 or 3 days!! I finally got the papers in early september... And the worst part? They saiid a part was put on my truck that was not on the work order. They told me 3 "expensive" electrial parts went on my truck and on the work order there was only 2. makes you go hmmmmm doesn't it?

December 2010- 15,000km's on the truck
I was going ice fishing. I went out and started my truck to let it warm up. Started right up, no problems. no extra lights on the dash. I unplugged the trrucks block heater and went inside and got my stuff. When I came out the truck was up to temp and the "check engine light was on"... so I checked the obvious stuff gas cap etc.. nothing, so I drove to the dealerhsip. I told them what happened and they said they would hook it up to the comp and figure it out. They said come back in 2 hours. So I came back in 2 hours. Dealership told me "We brought the truck in and put it on the computer. The computer said the #8 cylinder is mis firing. So the tech turned off the engine light. The tech drove it around for awhile and it didn't come back on so its fine. " My reposince "No.. its not fine. You need to find out why the cylinder was mis firing.. " Her responce" well it was probably bad gas.." I said "the only gas I ever buy is high octance gas from your gas station" (the delaerhsip has a gas station"... She said "oh well it can't be the gas then. It was probably condensation or just a cold start"... I said "No.. the truck was plugged in all night and it is not even cold out.. And there should not be any condensation in the cyclinder to make it mis fire.. I want to talk to the tech " .. she said "Well I'm sorry.. He is not here now. If the light comes back on bring it back and we will figure it out".. pissed off.. I left.

Since december

-4x4 has been screwing up. It won't go into 4x4 H or L sometimes. IT takes rocking the truck and fliping the dial to get it to go in sometimes. Once it came out of 4x4 low when I was getting wood in a field.

-The cab leaks. The pillar between the drivers window and windsheild has a peice the pops out to get access to a screw. One day a pile of snow melted on my roof. Water was pouring in through the peice the covers the screw. POURING.. I took it home and the next day took it to a car wash to see if I can figure out where its comming from.. I couldn't...

-when I drive down a bumpy gravel road with high beams on they flicker. I am not sure if a head lights is flickering on and off or? Only happens on bumpy gravel road when I have highs on.

-2 head lights, box lite (high brake light) and one tail light has a LOT of condensation inside them. It only shows up when it is above freezing point. Which up here is not often. When it is above freezing the just fill up with condensation.

-One night I was washing the truck and when I went to vacum the cab I see that by the head rest on the right side of the back seat is covered in water spray... I take the truck back to the car wash and wipe the water off and wash it again.. same results.. water spray on the head rest... So more water leaking in the cab..

I am at a loss.. I don't want to take it back to the local dealership I bought it from.. THey are crooks... Wouldn't give me my work orders.. missing parts... not trying to find out what caused mis firing engine..

I have to run, but I will post the rest of the story. Basically I took the truck to the city (300km's one way away from me) to see if another dodge dealer would help..

thought my g/f pulled up.. she didn't though so I can continue..

I called a dodge dealer in the big city last monday. I told them my story about not getting good service at the local place I bought it new. I todl them the problems the turck is now having over the phone. I DID NOT tell them about the missing part and not getting my work order for 4 months. I told her I was drving from 300kms away so I wanted the truck to get fixed that day and be able to coem home.

The lady on the phone said "oh bring it in.. we'll fix it up no problems!! I will get all the tech's lined up for you to bring it in on thursday. That way you will get it back in your hands to go home that day" I told her I would call back wednesday night to confirm evereything.

I called wednesday and spoke to a girl. She promply brough up my file and read off all my issues and said everythin is good to go.

I leave my house at 5am yesterdya morning. I get to the dealership and tell them my name and how I called and bookede the truck. SHe says my name is not in the file. So she spent 20 mins making me a new file. When I told her all the problems she stopped me at the head light issue and said "so you want the mechanic to drive the truck down a bumpy gravel road? Thats the only way to see the head light problem?". I said "umm no.. its day light right now.. there is no way the head light problem will show up in the day light. If they need to see the problem than they have to drive the truck at night down a bumpy road". She said "we can't do that... ".. I said "well I called on monday and wednesday and you guys said you would fix it. I am sure its just a loose bulb or wire. Can the tech check the connections and bulbs than?" She said "well if you want the tech to look at the headlights and he doesn't find a loose connection or can't get them to flicker I have to charge you a min of 79.99$".. I said "there is no way I am paying for anything.. the truck isn't even a year old and you had already told me onthe phone you would fix it.. There is no way he will see it flicker unless he drives it at 10pm down a bumpy road!!"... We went back and forth and she basically stated if I say its a problem and they look at it and push the connections together than I pick up the bill... I said "fine.. don't get him to look at the light because I know he will not see them flicker.. what am I supposed to do about them now?" She said "well bring the truck back when they get worse and we can see that they are not working".. |I said "so you want me to drive my truck with mal functioning head lights until they malfunction even more possibly causeing me to get in a accident or stranded on a road".. She said "well yes.. I am saying to bring it back when they are worse"..

I said "well what about the condensation in the head lights?? The condenssation only shows up when its above freexing and its not above freezing today..". She said "again.. IF the tech finds nothing than we have to charge you"... I was so pissed at this point.. I said "if the truck is in the shop for a few hours the condensation will prbably show up.. so if he leaves it in the shop I want him to look"..

So she said "ok so you want us to look at the 4x4, the water leak and the condensation?"... I said yes.. and I physically showed her the two spots the truck had water leaking in.

This was about 8:20 am.. I got a call at 4pm to come back for the truck..

They found no issues with the 4x4.. They found no leaks even though they hosed the truck down for "2 hours" and they found no condensation.. The bill.. 189$..

I was flipping mad.. I asked to speak to someone who was in charge.. I got to talk to the assistant manager.. I let him have it explaining that on the phone they said they would fix iot no problems, how I drove 6 hours to get better servie, how there is no way to see the head light issue so they refuse to do anything unless I pay, how I can not possibly bring in the truck with the 4x4 malfuntioning because eventually with rocking and fukcing around it will go into 4x4 so no codes come up, how my warranty is useless unless I bring the truck in on a tow truck or limping, how I am being charged for problmes that are in the truck but just not showing up, how I spent 40K and getting no service.

He let me talk to the head tech who ADMITTED my year of 4x4's have problems like the one I describe with the tranfer case. He admitted its a bad program design in the software for it. I told him about how the 4x4 transfer case is what I think and the other tech thinks caused the CPU to fry back in the spring. This tech of course says they are un related issues..

THe assisnt manager also admitted its next to impossible for me to get truck to them with the 4x4 not working. He also said he beleives me about the water leak and the condensation but siad they can't fix it if they can't find it. He voided all charges to me and told me to try to take pictures and email them to him when the problems happen. Even a video..

I got him to type on the invoice ALL the issue I have with the truck and how the techs found nothing.

I was so pissed...

I woke up today and took a real good look at my truck. My box light has frozen water inside it!! Like inside both lenses have water droplets covering the inside of the lense and they are frozen.. BOth headlights also have visible frozen water inside the lens.. I was steaming mad.. The tech never even looked at the lights but they tried to charge me for it. It was part of the 189$ they wanted to charge me.

I drove the truck to the car wash. I sprayed it off for 10 mins. I opend the back passenger door and sure enough there was water spray ALL OVER the shoulder/head rest. I put my hand bedhind the seat and under the seat. There was a small puddle of frozen water in a metal bracket uunder the seat with a trail of water leading freom the head rest to the puddle.

I was pissed.. I took videos of the lenses and leak..

I came home and called the assistant manager.. He f*cking blew it off saying he saw the tech hose the truck for 2 hours and not a single drop came in the truck. He also said the tech checked and saw NO frozen droplets or condensaiton in the leneses. I told him I have videos and pictures I want to email me him and pointed out they tried to charge me for both issues because they found nothing wrong. He said "well take the trruck to your local dealer. It wouldn't be worth the drive for you to bring it back here. I am sure they will fix it.. but again, take video next time your 4x4 isn't functioning properly."...

I pretty much hung up. Time to talk to Chrysler Canada I think.. I am so angry and frustrated. I will never buy another product of Jeep or dodge or chrysler.. Which is sad because I owed a used 2003 Grande cherokee overland that was the best vehcile I have ever owned..

So I proved the cab leaks (wonder what water damage there is and how much water is still under the roof?) and I proved the head lights/box light leak and have condensation.. But my transfer case does not function properly and my head lights mal function.. I have no mods to the truck and my bumper to bumper warranty is up in 2 months..

Dude, that totally sucks.

A "Monday" truck, huh? Sounds like you got a lemon, but I'm sure you don't want to hear that. And I'm sure you know it already.

Hopefully you find a reputable dealership that will hook you up right.

Oh I forgot.. When I first flipped out on the ast manager about how the girl said they wouldn't even look at the headlight wiring or bulbs without charging me because they won't flicker in the shop he said "oh she was just doing her job... but we would never charge to take a look at head lights bulbs and wiring"... I said "well we argued for 10 mins about it and she said there was no way they would not charge for looking and checking unless they found a problem".. aafgin he said "well we wouldn't charge just to look." I said "well she said the same thing about looking for condenstation in my light lenses... !!".. he said "again sir, we wouldn't charge for a tech to just take a look at the lenses".. I said "well maybe you should go over this **** with the girl at the counter"

Canada does have a law similar to the Lemon Law. Read about it at this site. http://www.camvap.ca/eng/consumers_guide.htm

Wow for sure. You bought a cancer there i would say. Its too bad you had to land on a truck like that, and i agree with you that thing is brand new you shouldnt have to go to the dealership like that. I already had to go more than i figured i would by this time, dumb little stuff but not as bad as you. They always try to screw you over, they tried with me to get away from work they dont want to do. I mean the truck is in the garage so i dont see if they actually even touch the thing, like i go tmy exhaust bolts changed, im still doubting that they changed them. You have to show them that your not stupid and you cant be fooled. But once again you bought a brand "NEW" truck to drive it not sit in a dealership. I would go to Edmonton or at least another dealership, then i'd put a big ad on the back window of your truck stating not to buy a vehicle from the specific dealership. What are they gonna do about that. **** all

I did take it to a edmonton dealership.. Thats where I took it yesterday.

I am ready to dump the truck off as a trade in. If you noticed I have another thread asking for advise if I should keep my truck or buy a diesel. It doesn't state in there the problems I am having with mine.

I decided to keep my truck thinking when I took it to edmonton it would be fixed and it would just be the local dealer thats a crook.

IF I do keep it, I need to put some mods on it to make it better for hauling 5000lbs of water on a trailer. Exuhaust, chip, cold air intake and air bags. I'm hopiing this will help, but it will screw up warranty. This wouldn't be such a issue if I wans't having problems with the truck. But with the major problems I have with it (friend CPU, 4x4) I am thinking I should buy the extended warranty. But if I do that I can't do my mods to make it better to tow.

Sadly, I actually do love the truck.... If the problems weren't there I would be the first guy on this site saying how much I love it. Becauuse I do, but my opinion is clouded by the service.
