Default Adding a backup camera

OK, quick question. I recently purchased a lockpick for my MyGig. I'm considering taking advantage of the ability this thing gives you to add an aftermarket backup camera. Yes, yes, I know the smart a** answer is to turn your head around and look. I think the advantage of having a backup camera is two fold. Its nice for backing up with a trailer and it also helps you with your low end visibility like kids, cats, dogs, midgets etc.

Anyway, my question is has anyone found a good camera they are happy with? How much was it? Where did you mount it? I know the lockpick website has one, but its a little pricey and I'm not sure how happy people are with it. I'd like to get some alternatives and testimonials before making a purchase. Thanks for your time.

The camera on that site you mentioned is okay if you are careful with the thin bracket. Mine snapped in half when installing it. The company itself has terrible customer service after the sale - you've been warned.

Perhaps I'll get the OE camera integrated into the handle... Thanks for the info.

Do you have a part number for the OEM Camera and do you know the price? I was hoping that my truck came with the camera but I think it was late availability and there wasn't anywhere to add that option. I have a locking tailgate, wonder if the camera will still fit on the handle...

Getting the part number and price is as easy as calling the parts dept. at your local dealer. It was a late availability. If its out now, it just came out. If its not yet, it will be soon. You will need to change out the handle if you get the OE version. The camera is integrated into the handle (opposite side as the key cylinder). Wiring the camera will be another challenge. I haven't done the research yet, but will in the near future.

Thanks tips, the reason why I'm asking for it is that they don't have it or can't find it.

I had been looking at getting a lockpick or the Nav-tv so I could add the backup camera, but if the factory kits are available I think I would go that way. The only thing I could gain by using the lockpick/nav-tv option would be I could wire my laptop to display thru the radio and that would be excellent. Anyone install the backup kit themselves? also does it need to be turned on by a dealer?
