Default Problems with 09 Ram Sport

Hey all! I just picked up my '09 Ram Sport from the dealer Friday night. I didn't make it out of the lot before I noticed the SERV 4WD light was on along with the ENGINE MALFUCTION (Check Engine) light. Kinda hard to imagine that no one else noticed that but, thats another story. I pulled it back into the parking spot and went to see the Salesman and Sales Manager. After a lot of attention and misdiagnosis they encouraged me to take it home for the weekend and bring it back today as they felt it was nothing major. The 4WD was funtioning properly.

Over the weekend the SERV 4WD light would come and go but, mostly stay on. The ENGINE MALFUCTION stayed on and the OAT would read 115F and 130F and then ---F.

I left it at the dealer all day and to make a long story short they felt it was fixed. When I picked it up it APPEARED fixed although the OAT was off by about 40 degrees. After shutting the vehicle off once the OAT begain reading correctly at 9F (Michigan).

At lunch time a buddy of mine and I went out to take the truck for a test beat. Upon starting it the SERV 4WD light, ENGINE MALFUNCTION light were both on and the OAT was reading ---F. WTF???

Any suggestions?? Is this the same or similar problem that others are having? The SERV 4WD is throwing me a bit.

I've drove Dodge Ram trucks for 15 years and NOT ONE was ever in for repair. EVER!! All I did was put in gas, change the oil and brakes. On one I did have to replace the front wheel bearing at 118,000 miles. This truck has been to the dealer twice in two days and will now go back again.

Well that is preference, but given it is a sport with painted bumpers I would keep the painted handles and mirrors

As for the issue if you do not find resolution at your dealer I would try another. Service is not a Chrysler thing, it is a dealer thing.

there is a few other guys having issues with there OAT readings... there is a post on here about it. something about mositure in a connection under the hood.

as for the service light. no idea man. the only "notice" i get from my truck is the "service the rear park system" but that is because the sensors are usually covered in snow.

i would have left the truck on the lot if the service light came on the night i bought it. you paid for a working truck, not a broken one.

I understand that the truck is not BROKEN.

I'm just bothered that no one noticed these issues when it was prepped. I find it a bit hard to believe it was just a coincidence that these lights popped on the moment I got in it and started it.

It also did spend a entire day at the dealer to be repaired and was given back to me only to have the same problems that it went in for reoccur just hours after getting it back. Not at all like your experience Doc.

I was called by the dealer service today to notify me that something called a "Rapid Response" has been issued by Chrysler on these vehicles and there was a second part that they needed to order and it would be in Wednesday. Not sure why they didn't know this yesterday. If and when it gets fixed I'll post what the service indicates what was done.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Hopefully they get them fixed soon for you. If you find out what the rapid response is for, be sure to post back and let us know. Good luck!

I do wish you luck and hopefully it will be fixed soon. It would be nice for you to fully enjoy your nice looking truck without worry.
