Hmm.... I've never noticed my truck do that. Is that good or bad? And I'd like to think that I pay pretty close attention. I've accelerated from 0 - 35 and then maintained that speed, almost not giving it any gas, waiting intently to notice some change from the truck, and I can't notice anything. In my '07 it was fairly easy to tell when it was in 4 cyl mode, but now it seems like it's always running on 8 cylinders.

The MDS kicking in does not change rpm. Think about it-why would disabling cylinders change engine rpm if vehicle speed stayed the same? In fact, HOW could disabling cylinders change rpm without changing speed or what gear the truck was in?

A slight rpm change not coming from a shift is probably the torque converter locking or unlocking. That will allow a couple hundred rpm difference.

OK, thanks for the clarification.

Hmm...with that in mind then...any advice you can give me on being able to tell when running in MDS?

Dodge has done a terrific job of making MDS seamless on the 09's. Without having the indicator in the EVIC, I'm not sure you could tell when it was active or not.

That's exactly why it would be great to have that light on my EVIC - so I could tailor my driving to maximize mpgs when I don't need to go fast.
