305/55/20 vs. 305/50/20
All of this is on pavement for reference:
(1) When I swap to 4x4Auto there is no difference, naturally since I have the clutch transfer case that comes on the Laramies. I'd have to be off road or have enough slip in order to have the clutchpack close in order to turn the fronts
(2) Going from 4x4Auto to 4x4Hi I do get a little shutter for a few seconds, I make the swap at 25-30mph or so. There is an initial bit of shutter and then it goes away. It feels to me like the clutchpack is slipping or chattering for a few secs and then settles down. I haven't experienced continued shutter/wobble or such after this event but I've only driven it maybe 10min in 4x4Hi since all this is on pavement and isn't really recommended anyway. Again there doesn't seem to be continued shutter after the initial change, accelerating or decelerating at speeds up to ~55mph. There is no "wobble" or anything unusual like the 5-link "Death Wobble" on Jeeps and 2500+ Dodges.
There is something there for a few secs but I think its something to do with my transfer case. My truck has 2400mi on it fwiw and I've only used 4x4Hi maybe twice so far... not sure if this is a new truck break-in thing or not. I don't seem to have any issues once this shutter thing occurs. I'll update if something changes.
Also - thanks for the comments. I'll get some better pics up late today/tomorrow once I've had a chance to clean it.
im planning to get either those or some BFG ATs in the same size.
thanks for the pics.
@scotty, Thank you for the valuable info and pics!
Did you 1/4 inch wheel spacers? I think that might solve the rub.
Have you noticed a drop in MPG?
How long have you had these? Will you go back to them next time?

I drove around in a storm last weekend. We had about 10" on the ground at the time. The truck handled well. The tires do tend to float on top of the snow some because of the width but they still do the job since they seem to clean themselves pretty well.
If I was plowing I don't think I'd use this particular tire size do to the width. However I'd use a narrower Terra Grappler in a heartbeat.
Pm'd ya.
Moving up to a 305/50/20 or 305/55/20 tire will definitely be a mileage hit. Going from stock tires to 305/50/20 LTZ's, I probably lost 1 - 2 mpg. They're width causes more rolling resistance and they're just plain heavier. In 60/40 city/highway I was getting 13.5 avg. In 40/60 it was 14.5.
if ur going to put wheel spacers on dont get the universal ones ul get a shake. i have a set of 1/4 in ones on my truck and theres a bad shake in it. i ordered a set from Motorsports Technologys and they are hub-centeric so it took the shake away well worth the money and the grief....

Guys.. back on this important thread.. Can sombody point out exactly where the 305/55/20s are rubbing if stock 2009+ stock 20x9 ?
Is it this elbo?

I'm asking cause it would appear that 325/50/20s (much wider, but shorter) might fit with no rub???
If not where exactly please.. and interesting that only on full lock so can't see how it's the elbo. BTW, not my truck below.
