Navigation / Please tell me I'm wrong
according to Dodge's website, the uconnect nav does do voice directions. I'm sure it's just a config issue, but if you can't find the appropriate setup, i'd check with the dealer.
That being said, i've never been a fan of integrated nav solutions. for the most part they are clunkier and less handy than any number of small portable solutions. Personally I ordered my laramie with pretty much everything but nav and sunroof, My little Garmins will continue to serve me well.

I agree with you guys and the two reasons I decided to get Nav this time around was because I could unlock it with the allgig and my experience with the AVIC Z1 was horrible.
I actually think the interface is pretty intuitive and I give it a thumbs up. Just cant believe its missing text to speech.
No sunroof for me either as I always pulled the shade shut.

I chose the allgig over the lockpick because:
1. They have telephone support.
2. The device is USB up-datable in case of future software upgrades to the mygig causes problems with it
3. You dont have to double press any power buttons to get things to work (Nav input, DVD playback) it just works.
Those are the main reasons. I have not installed it yet. Hopefully this weekend.

I have never had a nav unit that calls out the name of the street unless it is a numbered or lettered street. The highway number is always called out.
The Dodge nav is thousands times better than the one in my wife's BMW. The Bimmer's nav only tells you to exit at "the next exit" or "at the 2nd exit on your right". It will tell you that at an intersection, or freeway junction - so you don't know if it is counting this exit or is it the next one. In fact, it doesn't even display the name of the street you want to turn off at. Plus, you have to go thru that infuriating iDrive system - it just makes the operation of the nav, radio, and HVAC controls more complicated than it has to be.
Besides how would a nav unit say Amarillo? Is it A-ma-rillo like it's spelled or the A-ma-ree-yo as it is would be correctly pronounced, let's say, by someone who is not from the area, but knows some Spanish.
Or let's try New Orleans:
Is is New Or-le-ans
or
New Or-leens
or
Naah Lins?
How about Wire,
Is it Wi-yer
or
Wi-ya
or
Wy-er
or
Waar?
It all a matter of where you live that changes the pronounciation of the words. I think what Dodge did on the nav is pretty good and works for most people including me.

I just dropped my truck at the dealer this morning to have the Nav installed so I'm excited to see what it's all about. I also asked the dealer give me an idea what the UCONNECT thing was all about as I've never heard of it. He told me that he'd have to check on it?? WTF? Anyone here know anything about it? Do I need it? Does the bluetooth work without it?
The voice does not announce street names unless they are major highways i.e. 495 West, 85 south ect. Normal street names are not announced.
The street name does appear in your EVIC. It took me a while to get used to it there. Its more convient to read it there than on the NAV screen.
You can add the next turn option onto your NAV screen so you can see it at the top of the display with a countdown of how may miles until that turn as well.

Also, Coastaltech's (Lockpick) customer service stinks big time. Just try and get them to respond to an email from you after they have your money and you need any product support.
