That's the same hitch I just ordered. Here's the description: 12,000-lb tow rating, 1,200-lb tongue weight rating with weight distributin*g equipment; otherwise 5,000-lb. tow rating, 500-lb tongue weight rating, includes receiver plug, 2.0" opening, Hitch Ball and Ball mount sold separately. It looks like you need the weight distribution stuff in order to make it class IV

I agree, it is not a class IV, but you probably don't need it unless you are towing some heavy stuff. I got in the habit of buying factory tow packages years ago when you got a higher amp alternator, transmission cooler and heavy duty radiator. I don't think you get anything but the hitch anymore, but I still require it when I buy a truck for the integrated class IV.

More food for thought, the trucks I saw at the dealership with the hitch factory installed looked like the same set up. Next time I'll swing by and take a closer look underneath to see what's different. FYI-I think I remeber seeing a $335.00 charge for the hitch on the window sticker for trucks that had one. As for the weight distribution, I can see were some extra welds and/or reinforcing can easily be made. Lucky for me, my neighbor is a welder and he has a moble welding rig on a sweet F350 king ranch truck. I'm going to consult with him and see what he recommends to bump up the tow rating, just in case I find a sweet deal on a big boat!!

I was in a similar situation. My truck did not came with a hitch. The dealer agreeded to install one for free. I did take a look at the trucks on the lot that had a hitch on it and the were welded to the rear bumper. I assumed they would have to replace the bumper but I was wrong. The hitch they installed on mine was bolted to the bumper and they claim to have a tow rating of 12,000 lbs. I am not towing anything over 10K but if I do, I can weld the hitch to the bumper.

I bought my truck with the towing package and I have the class IV hitch. I have seen posts on here where people are talking about an ugly cap that has to go over their ball hitch. Is this due to the install of the after market class III hitch. However, I think that this is a great feature that Dodge has added. Most people do not need a class IV hitch. Dodge has done a good job at making a hitch affordable and easy for the average joe to install. Great job Dodge.

I got the dealer to throw in the installed receiver at purchase. I told him it was deal breaker.

I picked up my hitch today. They also told me that it was rated for 12000 lbs. It looks like a standard size hitch to me. Also the cap is very small and it just covers the bolt head, not a ball hitch. I would post some pics but they don't seem to work here so I won't.

I found a truck I really like without a hitch. I want the dealer to add the class 4 hitch. Is this something they can do or is the class 4 hitch a factory only option? I haven't visited the dealer to ask yet...

Thanks!

Tim

They can be added, but cost will be at least $355, thats what mine cost from the factory. May be more from the dealer though.
