Any indication of low oil pressure? Will be interesting to see if it does it again after sitting for 12 to 24 hours.

Must have been the engine gnomes or the noise was in your head

Not gnomes, my valves have rattled at start up too. 610 miles.
My oil is full and my pressure is good. All mass production engines takes a second to build pressure. Its that second or two..no big deal. Push rod type more than OHC or DOHC.
Its the low weight oil draining out of the top end into the pan and/or cold play.

Maybe a faulty anti-drain back valve on the oil filters

Change the oil, use 5w-20 of course for the MDS, the trucks sit for a while after the engines are tested and driven around the lot, on and off the truck etc.

My 03 and 05 always had a slight lifter noise. I put over 50K on both and never had a problem.
