new Ram owner.
Just bought my first pick up truck last Tuesday and love it! never Buying a car ever again! I am driving a 2009 Dodge Ram Quad 1500 4x4.
I was wondering if i should go to the dealer to upgrade my alarm system? It seems it only work if i press the panic Button. I tried opening the door when it was locked etc and no alarm. Seems as if I have no alarm on my truck and wouldnt mind having one.
Also I am sort of wanting a back up senser. Don't really care for the camera. Just the beeping inside the truck and as you get closer the beeping gets faster. Again dealers do this aswell even after the purchase?

Congrats on the truck! When I got my first one I wondered why I ever had a car to begin with.
As for the alarm, it's really more of a "disabler". It doesn't have a shock sensor or window break sensor, but if you sit in the truck and have someone lock the doors, try opening the door. Mine old truck would set off the alarm.
It won't protect the trucks contents but rather it is designed to prevent the truck from being stolen.
I've found that most people and even police don't pay much attention to alarms and I have had my share of stereos stolen from from my vehicles with the alarm going absolute ape-****.

Aftermarket or after the fact backup sensors are expensive. They have to drill holes, run the wiring, connect the lights, etc. It would probably be cheaper to just get the camera installed, especially if you already have MyGig.
If you want a better alarm, go to a professional audio shop, not the dealer.
