You really dont think that a dealer is going to give you the book price on your old dak do you? There is no way in hell you'll find a dealer willing to do that.

That's true that most dealers won't give you even trade-in, unless they're motivated to get the sale. But any money they give you on trade-in is basically that much less that you're getting in discount....

I'm lucky enough to be able to sell my Dak outright instead of the minimal trade Dodge was offering me on my new Hemi..
Get the Hemi if the deal is still there. It is well worth it. My '04 Dak has 4.7 and even though they have increased HP in the 4.7, the Hemi is the way to go. Mileage is about the same, if not better than the old, with more HP. It they aren't willing to deal, make them pay for a 4.7 on their lot. go elsewhere and get the Hemi.
My opinion oly matters to me. Make your own choice...Do what you can offord to do..
Enjoy..

Actually, I did expect them to meet the blue book trade-in value, not the private party value. This price would still give them a solid profit if they sold it (even if I didn't get anything off from the dodge net price). I left the dealership feeling they were dishonest. Probably not a good thing for them given I'm the only customer I saw there over ~4 hours over two days.

Definitely getting jerked around.... I just picked up a TRX4 Hemi from a dealership here in SC and it was the single best experience I've had picking up a truck. Firstly definitely get the HEMI if you can swing it. Secondly the dealership makes more money if they shop around your loan. The banks/credit union's give kickbacks to them for using them. The simple math also says that the higher the interest rate, the higher they can give in kickback because they'll earn it back over time. Soooo when you get the 0% financing it's benificial to GM to sell the car but the dealership itself doesn't make as much (now the "down payment") To be honest I don't remember how it works but the dealership does get a little something more for the higher the down payment. I just gave zero down on mine, got around 8k off for employee pricing/rebates, and I think they screwed up but I ended up getting more than trade-in value for my 06 ram.

Anyway my two cents, good luck hunting and if you're near me I'll share the dealership with 'ya. Hope to see pics soon!

GET A HEMI

***edit*** After all of that I don't have the 0% but that's for other reasons, LOVE THE TRUCK.

Get the Hemi and start pitting dealers against each other. They WILL move on their price if they know you are serious. All of the dealerships are trying to sell and stay in business.

Default Bad deal, pal

You are getting the proverbial F#@*ing runaround. Don't bite, especially in this economy. Threaten to leave, get up and walk out unless they honor their first deal or what's advertised and take your business elsewhere. Wait. Don't buy in a rush, you have lots of time and you are the buyer.
Low Balling is a common technique to screw the buyer. My approach is to tell the dealer this is my first and last visit, that they MUST give me their best deal right now and I'm not coming back. It works.

Don't lose sight that the Ram 1500 Hemi is an awesome piece of equipment.

Don;t just let one dealer ruin that experience.

Go find the one who wants your business. I got $1000 more then blue book trade-in for my 04 Jeep Rubicon. I also got all the incentives and a few extras thrown in after the trade-in issue was settled. I also got 48 months at 2.9% without any down!

Happy hunting...

Op here, I visited another dealer in the area (Connecticut) and asked to speak with the new car sales manager. Explained what had happened and that I was interested in buying and realised they have to make some $$ too. He has a 1500 Sport on the lot that he was very willing to deal on and offered me the blue book value for my trade and then added another $500 to it to sweeten the deal. I'm not sure its exactly what I would order if I was ordering from the factory, but its very close. I wish it had the 3.92 but I can live with the 3.55 (with the Hemi, it'll do just fine). Thanks for the support!
